The Dark Knight Viral Collectibles: How to tell a fake from the genuine article

As I mentioned in a previous post, those cards are clearly fake. I could make one of those in under 30 seconds. The graphic is printed on a regular playing card, not one that was part of the viral campaign. Don't get ripped off by this guy!

Here's my take on the original design:

343.jpg

Ok, first of all, how did you do that? Because you need to teach me. It's cheap and fun...like dynamite!

Second of all, I think this is becoming a serious issue. I mean it seems pretty clear these cards are fake for the following reasons:

1. You did it pretty convincingly in under 30 seconds;
2. There is no Wednesday the 15th;
3. This card has never been officially released, as far as I know, viral or otherwise;
4. Had it been given out at kickingandscreening we would know about it, and
5. The Bicycle backing. I can't see this EVER happening. If it were from Warner Bros, 42e...ANYBODY...they'd've done a unique backing, especially since they already exist. I am sure it is not very difficult for a company like 42e, or WB who commissions them, to get a hold of more prints of cards that have already been designed and printed before. There is the argument that THIS card was never officially released, but I can't imagine a universe in which more obscure Joker cards have original backings and an official one from the movie poster doesn't.

I bring this up because at first I thought it was fine if people wanted to be swindled by this guy but now I look and he currently has 8 cards up for auction, all of which have surpassed $35 apiece and some of which have topped the $50 mark.

And he has negative feedback--from '05 perhaps, but it explicitly says, "Thief!"

I dunno. I mean I guess I'm not buying, but...this is seriously messed up.

Okay folks, I just spoke to the seller that sold me the authentic dollars. He hasn't listed any lately because he's currently at Comic Con. But he says he does have a few left. I'm gonna try to find out how many. And if/when he plans on listing them. If he decides to just go outside of ebay, I won't complain. But I told him there were several people interested in purchasing authentic dollars from him. As soon as I hear back from him, I'll let you know.

^I'm going to jokerize some issues and tape them together and see if I rake in those THREE HUNERED BUCKS.

My favorite thing is that they're not even Jokerized, per se. It's like they just painted "HA HA" in red paint. Jokerizing papers would = The HaHaHa Times. This is just sad. And people actually bought it! Hell on earth, I'm gonna do it, too. Maybe I won't even use my real GT issues...I'll just scan them and print them out and THEN tape them together and paint on them.

I saw the auction with the painted GT #1's back when it first started. I contacted him, and let him know how much of a joke his auction was and that it was not an official prop provided to the theater by WB... little did I know he would make such a ridiculous amount of cash. His original Buy It Now price was 1000$ - at least it didn't go that far.

Am I the only one who died a little bit inside when they saw six first edition times defaced? Even though I have a copy from the prologue screening, it makes me sad.

I DID TOO. And I laughed and laughed...before I saw that people were actually bidding on it. I was sitting there thinking, "OMG, this guy totally just trashed six Gotham Times and when all is said and done he's just gonna be sitting there with six trashed Gotham Times...es," and then I realized, some idiots were ACTUALLY BIDDING ON IT. I can't believe it. Anyone with extra Gotham Times...you should just tape six of them together, deface them, and sell them for $305 on eBay.

Oh my god, that's disgusting. I thought it was like, a joke. When I looked at the bidding I saw the first was $1, which I thought, okay, I'd pay $1 for six defaced copies of the Gotham Times. But I can't believe people actually bought it!

But then again, this coming from a community of people who embraced and purchased this hilarity:

Re the CFB shirts:

I've received two of them (one L and one M) from two different SHH members and they're both Jerzees so I'm inclined to believe both Gildans and Jerzees are legit.

Most screen printers dont use a specific shirt. they just use what they have on hand. So judging the authenticity by brand of shirt tends to be a bit sketchy.

I believe I will wait for the HAHAHA Times version of The Gotham Times #4 before I bid on these.

I do like the deck of cards he has there though. That I would shell out for.

That Gotham Times Vol. 4 is as real as water on Mars! Some people may not believe it, but that can't contradict the cold, hard fact!

How much? (In roubles?)

Additionally, and alas -- I cannot fault you for wanting The HaHaHa Times Vol. 4. I am curious to see what it looks like myself.

Jerzees ARE indeed legit. Both my CFB shirts from New York are Jerzees.

This is a reply I just got from my seller regarding the Joker Dollars:

Hi,

I just got back from comic con, I know about seahawks4u he bought one from me and next thing I new he was selling them. They will be back on ebay either today or tomorrow you can have want ever you want.

Thanks,

Ha!

-WsS?

Wait wait wait, I'm mildly confused. Is this to imply that seahawks4u bought one and then suddenly had a bunch of them? Because that's pretty indefensible.

Second...who is your seller? I am still without Joker dollar.

Third...who wouldn't want a blessed tortilla? Think of the holy quesadilla possibilities.

Lyke OMG, I'd buy that GT VOL. 4.

But... at the same time, I totally want the yawn.
Imagine, opening that envelope up and experiencing one The Joker's yawns!
:wow:

The lint looks pretty nifty as well.
hm.....
