There you go, that is the conclusion to the latest arc. How does everyone feel about this?

About time. Nice to see him back in the Quitely costume, too. Everyone else needed costume changes, but the Quitely costume actually worked perfectly for Scott. It's my favorite look for him since the Jim Lee costume with all those useless straps everywhere.

Flying mopeds and Scott either loosing his powers or getting ruby quartz contacts.

.....yeah. I don't get it.

Or finally having his brain damage fixed with all of the Shi'ar and random other alien tech the X-Men have lying around everywhere. Given the reason for his inability to control the optic blasts, I'd say this is a long time coming.

I don't know about this. I also don't think Astonishing has much connection to the rest of continuity at this point either.

I'm not sure. While it is kind of refreshing, I always liked the whole "our powers aren't just great, they are also a hinderance" thing he and many others had going...

Or that.

That's like saying Thing ought to be cured since Reed has the obvious ability to do so. Or Matt Murdock should no longer be blind. Or that someone ought to be able to reverse Beasts mutations, or "cure" the Hulk.

In any comic we all know certain things are out of whack. But the major crux of Cyclops is that he can't control his optic blasts. It is why his powers are a curse (as most mutants powers are) and why he is so super serious all the time. It is also what makes him distinct from every other energy blaster the Marvel Universe has.

The last thing I want him to be is just some Havok-esque eye blaster. He was cool because he had to wear shades all the time, because you knew what he was holding back. Then he'd take them off a BAM, no more Sentinels.

This is just ruining the one aspect of the character that set him apart.

While I'm particularly looking forward to the loss of Cyclops' visor and the progression in his abilities, I voted "It's not like it will last." Because, frankly, it's not. A character builds up a certain appearance fans come to expect over 40 years, and I doubt a change would stick.

I was wishing that was X-Man. And the Visor will come back, hes not Cyclops without them.

I agree. It is his look. It is kind of like taking away Wolverine's claws or Beast's (now) blue fur. It won't stick, ever. His visor is his "symbol" in a way.

I doubt Astonishing affects continuity anyways. It's not like any other book is acting like Emma had been betraying the X-Men. And considering the lateness of the book the other two titles ought to have been onto the changes by now. There is obviously no mention of Brubaker or Carey doing anything with this.

True, and since it probably won't affect other titles and only be there for a short time, I am kind of looking forward to it. I think it could make for a decent character arc before ihe reverts back to his old ways.

The last panel of Astonishing
he slips and bangs his head on a rock.
Sorry.

Well ultimately doesn't the name cyclops kind of imply a single eye(or in this case vizor.) If this sticks wouldn't he have to change his name?

He could, COULD still wear the visor, but theres really no point.

Also doesn't the visor alow him to control the intensity and dimesions of the blast, how is going to do that using only his eyes?

I figured. He is not used to having full peripheral vision.

They could just call him "Biclops" instead. Maybe he'll really even take up a love triangle with Beast and Emma to really fill out the role, too.

Whedon really shot himself in the foot with this one.:o

It wont last anyway, by the end of the story he'll burn himself out or something and will A)Lose his powers or B)Lose control of them again.

I'm assuming that his eyes are fully capable of this, but the brain damage left him with no control whatsoever.

The implication was that that control was built into his brain's mutations to go along with his power. The brain damage is what knocked all of his control out.

But that in itself begs the question, if he closes his eye's why don't the blasts rip his eyelids to pieces. They can smash a sentinal to component parts but can't even break a thin membrane of skin?

Presumably, his body reabsorbs the energy on contact, making him imune.

Yeah, the same way his blasts dont affect Alex and vice-versa.
