The Dark Knight Warner to re-release 'The Dark Knight' on Jan 23

Sorry, but this is ******ed. Seriously. It's going to be on DVD. It had its run in theaters, it did really well, and then it's going to be on DVD, and now they want it BACK in theaters. Money hungry? Goodness.
Just a MONTH after the DVD they want people to PAY to go see it again. If it passes Titanic now, who cares? It's taken it two runs in theaters to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if they put it back a third time.

Is that illegal? :o

To be honest, I wish more movies had re-releases, as I can often only get out to see them once (if that) and I love the theater experience (especially with TDK, considering its the IMAX experience). Lots of films have been re-released in the past, some after the DVD, so I don't see what the issue is. You're not being forced to go.

It deserved to be seen again almost 20 years later. Batman just came out in July. -_-
It's just a short addittional promotional run for people to see it again, and to garner recognition for a genre picture to be raised to a new level in pushing it for Oscar consideration. This is a great thing. How one could be upset at this I have no idea. If you've seen it enough times in theatres or on IMAX, have the dvd, etc. Then don't go see it. Why ***** and complain? They're less interested with the buck, as opposed to putting it back in the spotlight for a brief period of time to hopefully garner one last push for Oscar level support. Don't hate.

I wasn't really "complaining". I'm not here causing problems and screaming/shouting. I gave my 2 cents. It's my opinion, get over it. There's no reasoning with you guys. You're right and I'm wrong apparently.

I know no one's making me see it. I just can't help but notice how they're trying to ****e out a good movie. I loved it, but damn. Movie's are expensive as hell these days. Why pay 8 bucks when I can watch it for free at home? Then again, screen size hardly matters to me.

****ing out a good movie? Oscar movies do this all the time, and as many of us have come to realize, TDK is an Oscar contender. It's really not unheard of. Hell, Michael Clayton came out in October, and was re-released just a few months later.

And as for "no reasoning with us", no one said you're wrong (at least from what I read). I really don't see what the big deal is with the re-release. We merely expressed our opinion on the issue, in response yours. Get over it. :o ;)

Hahahaha! I meant the day AFTER! ha! Dumbest post ever! In my defence, i have been awake for a very, VERY long time! Apologies.
haha its ok man...i have moments like that when im half way asleep as well

and to add to the arguement....by time it re releases ill have TDK on DVD and on Blu Ray....but me and my bro are gonna see it again in theaters because the movie is 10 times better in theaters(or at least id think) we wanna see it in IMAX so hopefully we will

Hmm, the day after Oscar nominations are announced. I guess they're expecting major nominations then? :oldrazz: Giving an "Oscar push" when the film isn't nominated for any major awards is sort of moot.
That's what strikes me as odd. If this is intended to put TDK back in awareness for Oscar voters, why is it coming out a day after the nominations are announced? If TDK doesn't get the ballets it's eyeballing, then what's the point?

Psssst

Money.

I think I may be able to watch it again. That is for Heath Ledger, to give an honor to him. Geez, almost 1st anniversary. Unbelievable.

Money.
They won't get much more than $5 million from this. I was under the impression that this was mostly for Oscar awareness.

Yeah I know that much, but really what I'm trying to say is to cement themselves in the history books. 1 billion is an amazing achievement, a re-release will have just enough hype to put it past, then they can all give it a rest.

I might catch it again.

I missed the IMAX version...so, I could try that one.

Any do the virals? I did for the original release, you think they'll come out again or are they already out and I'm missing something? I think WB should do it again for this re-release cause it's not costing them any money to produce the movie since it's already produced.

I didn't even know the movies on the $1 billion WW list, before I got into box office stats. :oldrazz: Aside from Titanic, obviously.

I think a Best Picture nom would be more history-book-worthy.

I heard that the people behind the virals aren't supposed to talk about their work on TDK until AFTER the Oscars, which I assume is mandated by WB's marketing dept. Frankly that makes me think WB is really, truly expecting some Oscar noms/awards, if they're spreading this kind of confidence behind the scenes.

And WB does have to pay 42E for their work, even though the movie's already out. :oldrazz: You have to pay for the theaters, you have to pay for the marketing, you have to pay for all the stuff behind-the-scenes to pull out the reels and get them ready again.

This is good news for those of us who didnt have the glory of seeing it in IMAX....Maybe some of us could get together to see it in January....Oh, and ive been following the board for a long time, now i'm admitting to my obsession...:hoboj:

I think it's a great opportunity for anyone who missed it in IMAX.
(I may see it again.)
Even if you have an awesome Blu-ray set-up, I don't think it's nearly the same.

For fans of the movie, it's an opportunity not to be missed....seeing this film in IMAX is an incredible experience. Worth the $15 regardless of whether you have it at home or not. I hope to be there on the 23rd having my mind blown again for the 3rd time.

I will gladly pay to see this film again. I think for the last time I see it in theatres, Ill travel down to Georgia to see it in IMAX, which is where I saw the advanced screening. I think this rerelease is a great idea. I always thought that when I got the film on DVD, the viewing experience would never be the same. Seeing it in the theatre is a truly special experience, and I wont take it for granted..

Why do I get the feeling that you wouldn't nearly be as hostile to the concept of a re-release if the film in question was one of the "Spider-Man" films...

'Re-Release Envy' ?

Honestly, If we wound the clocks back a year and "Spider-Man 3" was getting an X-Mas re-release, would you still consider it to be ******ed?

No?

Then leave the Bat-Fans be and let us have our fun. It's not our fault the film earned a re-release and the 'Spidey' films didn't.

Well...after $530 mil...maybe a part of it IS our fault. But the fact that the film is excellent is more to blame.

Why they don't actually release it before Oscar Nomination announcement?

It better get some BIG Nominations!!!

Perhaps they're aware of strong Oscar contention and figure the re-release will be a celebratory run marking the nominations.

Because, while the idea of "TDK" being nominated for a lot of the categories is pretentious...the idea of "TDK" not being nominated at all, after all its success, is laughable.

The film's getting nominations (categories pending) ... this re-release is celebrating that fact.

I don't see what the big deal is. it's still playing in some dollar theaters, so really it'll have only been 'gone' a few weeks and then will come back again. It's only being done to push it past a billion, but since only 3 other films have done that it's a fair enough milestone to aim for... zero point in complaining about it really.

Hh. It occurs to me that the word used is "Nationwide." If this re-release doesn't happen in Canada, I will be displeased. I didn't get to see it in Imax the first time around.
