Was the action that much better?

Well, then people here like aimless and empty action films. Good for you. You have XXX 1 and 2 for that as well.

I didn't find the action inspiring at all. It was closely shot at times -- the Jean House battle to be specific -- and was clunky and chopped up via editting never giving a consistent flow or rhythm to the choreography beats. Callisto vs. Storm was boring, constantly interuppted, and simply blaise. Iceman and Pyro, as other's have said, was bland.

And the generic toads at the end fighting all the X-Men was hokey, if not worse. The car bombs started cool, but just got boring. Wow. More fire and explosions. Wow.

As someone said, I didn't care who won or lost. I didn't give a flying f-ck. The film's action fails on this alone. Action without suspense is just meaningless action and if some people like that, fine -- do it. But if this is the low standard we're holding movies too now just to coax our own fanboyism, then fine, do it.

But you can't live in denial forever.

First, I hated the xXx movies. :down

And I won't "deny", some of the action in the movie was mindless. But I don't really care, as the movie still carried plot and dynamic to it, despite mindless action sequences.

That said, I very much enjoyed the action in this movie.

yes, the actions were much bigger and fun.... i had a blast seeing it on the theatre. it is what i've been waiting expecting from a superhero movie. in fact, i'm willing to pay to see it again sometime this weekend just for the actions alone

but the actions in X2 were much carefully crafted and executed.
some of the actions in x3 feel rushed, if given more time to polished, it will be a lot lot better

For me, it's the effects and the visceral enjoyment.

As long as the effects are well done, and the action is well choreographed and placed, I don't have a problem.
I simply can't do that. At some point, my mind shuts down and I get bored of the repetitive action without emotional investment. It happened a lot during the space battles in the New Star Wars Trilogy. It happened a lot during X3. Sure, the scenes were cool to look at but because I wasn't engaged by the characters, the action was meaningless to me.

^ Exactly. Take for instance the train scene in Spiderman 2. I believe that is the best action scene ever in a comic book movie, specifically because we are conected to Peter, we're rooting for him.

The action was better IMO. The bridge sequence alone topped anything done in the previous two films.

I cannot believe how hypocritical some people are. After X-men 2 came out everybody was delighted with it. Nobody complained once about the action scenes, and now since X3 came out there are people saying that X2 was boring, and slow paced and all it's action sequences are amateurish.

as soon as fans get their next fix, they forget what needed to be done to get them there...

it's all relative to a junky...

was X2 an action flick or drama, please remind me.

Actually borefest is the word that best describes it.

Actually I said this from the very beginning.

Well, X3 didn't come out back then. Ever since it came out, we've been comparing it to X2.

Some of these complains ive heard before. Oh yeah Batman Begins.

yes, the only scene that got me even close as excited in previous films was the nightcrawler/white house scene in X2

Yes, but after X2 came out virtually nobody complained about the action scenes. Now people do. I understand that people think X3 has better action sequences but that doesn't mean we should start dissing X2's. It was good action back then, and it is still good action today.

Not much happened in it.He got his ass kicked a bit, then he came back and blocked the guy's punch with his adamantium fist, and then knocked him out with a punch.

Hardly the most thrilling spectacle in these movies.

but it's subtleness is one of it's greatest strengths, that one scene summed up in around 1 minute a character that hours of dialogue and character building couldn't emulate.

and all without his main characteristic trait, his claws....

for relative story driving substance, that action scene is unrivalled

it was a good scene, but i'd hardly consider it an "action scene":o

it had action in it :o

i wouldn't consider the xavier/jean scrap as an action scene, i mean all they do is stare at each other then he levitates and disappears, yet it's a contribution as to why many people think the action is better in the last stand...

:o

umm the cage fight was like a whole 3 sec long... and it was just a guy trying to beat up wolvie.. it wasnt what i would call "fast paced" action.. and it lacked in energy...

however, the whole grey house sequence did not.. you had storm kicking MAJOR ass and wolvie and storm as well getting the crap kicked out of them...

at the same time you have xavier and jean in an intense psychic battle... and magneto being thrown back into the kitchen... it was very intense and much more of an action scene then the "cage" match... the two are infact incompareable.

i cant even believe your even considering the teeny cage fight an action scene.. lol

You're right. One scene was filmed in a gritty light with a great performance and perfectly encapsulated the characters, had suspense, and a good build up/pay off. One was a flashy brawl with characters I didn't care about.
