And the winner of the Academy Award for Best Digital Penis goes to...
Robert Downey Jr. in The Man with the Digital Penis
I think Haley was great, but as of yet I'm not sure Oscar-good. I thought Hugo Weaving as V For Vendetta was more memorable and that was also a somewhat mixed-review (though better reviewed than Watchmen) March-released so-so box office comic book movie. I also thought Edward Norton was Best Supporting Actor worthy and gave one of the most memorable supporting performances of 2005 in Kingdom of Heaven as King Baldwin IV aka the Leper King in the silver masks.
Neither of those were nominated. Haley was good, but he just won't sell it to the Academy. The other great turn in Watchmen was Billy Crudup who gave such a sympathetic and tragic performance. But like Andy Serkis as Gollum, his visual expressions were mimiced and his voice is there, but considering it is a CGI character, he cannot be nominated as it is not actually him on screen.
^I dont see how, as a lover of Ledger's performance as The Joker, I found Jackie Earle Haley's portrayal of Rorschach every bit as good.
Are you serious? Jackie was better than I expected... Anyway, nothing, absolutely nothing is in the league of TDK... Acting, effects, score, script, directing, box-office... You name it. You should compare Watchmen to V for Vendetta, 300, Sin City. The Dark Knight is in another league. The bottom line? Watchmen is just an average film that resulted from a superior classic cult graphic novel. TDK is a modern superior classic cult film that transcend its genre. 20 years from now people will still remember this film. Watchmen? Said it before and will say it again. It will be forgotten after the dvd release. Heck, from the box office results its seems allready forgoten after two weeks...
Sorry, but TDK is not superior in every way to every other CB movie out there. I have found on repeat viewings that TDK is quite flawed itself. And yes, in my honest opinion (and yes I do have a different OPINION than you do) JEH was as good as Heath was in TDK, and I LOVED Heath in TDK, but I also loved JEH in Watchmen.
You're opinion, and I respect that. But we'll see how this film will survive the test of time. After two weeks it's not good. And JEH was, in my opinion just another good permormance like so many others in recent years. But not an historical performance to be remembered. Not even in a month. Like I said, my opinion.

I also thought Crudup's performance was amazing, and he doesnt get enough recognition for it even on here, he nearly had me in tears both times I saw it during the 'miracle' speech on Mars.

I don't see Watchmen getting any big oscars. But then again, I don't see what the big deal with the Oscars is anyway... I mean, Hitchcock never got one, that's the ultimate proof the Oscars are a joke.
One quote by Werner Herzog really opened my eyes about the whole movie awards business, it goes as follows; I'm not out to win prizes - that's for dogs and horses. Superb!
What are you talking about? He has a mask so he wasn't acting? That's an incredibly ignorant comment to make. If anything, that should help his case more, because it's harder to act without your face than with it. You have to be very meticulous about how you use your voice and carry your body to convey emotions. There's a reason the guy they brought in before Hugo Weaving quit V for Vendetta. He said it was too hard for him to act with his entire face covered.
If you think that somehow Haley wasn't acting because his face was covered, then you don't know much about acting at all.
