We need another movie like Aliens, Predator, Terminator...

Aliens, Predator, Terminator.

What are 3 movies can only pull off 2 movies? Yeah I know I'm pushing it with Predator 2 but I like it.

Aliens 3
Aliens 4 Ressurection
Aliens vs. Predator
Terminator 3

Seems like that none of them could pull off the hat trick.

And Serenity? Yeah it was alright but honestly with Whedon, I don't need 5 minute speeches to discuss why or why not you are going to do something.

Lol, Commando was terrible, also. And that's coming from a LONG time Arnold fan. Putting Transporter in the same boat with Commando doesn't help your case much, :p

Commando is just a blow em up saturday afternoon movie, nothing wrong with tha

What happened?

I watch Aliens and Alien 3 this weekend for the first time, and being a big fan every major action/thriller/sci-fi-ish adventure movie of the great eighties....what happened. Where have all the Aliens and Predators of the world gone. What happened to new ideas. Why haven't we gotten an action movie like that again...with a plot and characters that take themselves seriously. I mean The Rock was fun, Casino Royal was good escapism...hell X2....but what happened to these truly original, truly strong action thrillers. X-Men, Batman and Superman are just lazy franchises compared to these things. What happened to movies built from the ground up; out of fever dreams from Cameron's head (which is where Terminator came from).

We need more of these movies...and fast, have we just used up all the ideas...

It's the weirdest thing. I swear somewhere someplace along the line you tapped into what I was thinking. I had this same conversation yesterday, and basically said the same thing using the same examples. I completely agree with you.

Hmmm...well good. The more people start thinking this the more people will step up and attempt to fix it.

Aliens 3 I think actually was a good movie, just not what people necessarily wanted, or maybe more to the point, expected. It was "different" but by no means a bad film.

It's an average movie, almost b-movie-ish in parts. I don't know why it was hyped up as this great masterpiece... internet must be full of ding dongs.

Yeeeeaaahh....

Serenity is probably the best sci-fi movie not named star wars of this decade

I am very wary of the movie. Nerds *sometimes* have good taste in films, but often some films they like get overhyped due to the Sci-Fi elements in them.

Don't be wary.
It's an awesome film.
The Reaver/ Alliance battle will blow your mind.:wow:

yeah I get what you're saying. It seems to me too that more emphasis is put on the general concepts within the movie like cool visuals than its actual execution through directing, acting, writing, and editing. That's fine for kids I guess, but even when I was a kid, I was looking for more meat in my movies, something to sink my mind into beyond a badass shot or sequence. That's what I think makes these films you mentioned so good. They have badassery and something interesting to explore beyond that storywise, acting-wise, dialogue-wise, editing-wise, music-wise, ahnuld-wise etc.

hell, we need the govenator at the movies again.

I think everyone who enjoyed Firefly enjoyed Serenity.

Alien 3 was actually fairly good. It kept with the rape, birth theme from the other movies perfectly. plus it had a new type of Alien that was really cool. The problem was the way they killed all the survivors from the last movie, it was sort of equivalent to say X men 3.

the problem, at least as far as the studios are concerned since it isn't actually a problem, is name recognition. Studios feel people need to instantly know what it is, which is stupid because movies have always been a great medium for discovery. Of course the high budget fair is making mid sized action movies a thing of the past. It's now either super high budget, or super low.

For a name recognition example look no further than pirates of the caribbean. It didn't need to be called Pirates of the Caribbean, it was so loosly based off the ride (a ride people) that by any other name it would have still been the same movie.

well Serenity just happens to be a fantastic movie, I thought the show was okay, and definatley didn't deserve to be cancelled considering some of the crap they put on

but serenity was absolutley one of the best movies of 2005, and like I said before outside of SW the best sci-fi movie this decade

What about Running Scared? It may not be the most original movie out there but that shyte was definately creative. The whole fairy tale theme and that ice rink scene was beautiful to say the least.

Is that on DVD yet?
If so, I'm gonna go rent it this weekend.

I agree it was average and quite boring in some parts.

We need an adaptation of Star Craft... this is the greatest real time strategy game of all time and my favorite PC game... I would love to see a platoon of marines getting trampled over by hundreds of zerglings... something like Starship troopers... but something that is legit you know... there were rumors about people interested in WoWC so why not... Hollywood is running out of ideas anyway... its only a matter of time before Halo or one of these Blizzard games gets made into a live action and deservedly so...

Pretty much completely agree with this,

what about that movie coming out with the vikings and the monster and the outer space guys hunting the monster and ron perlman? i forget what it's called, but it sounds pretty great.

and serenity is probably the best sci-fi movie of at least the last few years. just the character interaction alone puts it head and shoulders above most movies.
