Lol, Commando was terrible, also. And that's coming from a LONG time Arnold fan. Putting Transporter in the same boat with Commando doesn't help your case much,
What happened?
I watch Aliens and Alien 3 this weekend for the first time, and being a big fan every major action/thriller/sci-fi-ish adventure movie of the great eighties....what happened. Where have all the Aliens and Predators of the world gone. What happened to new ideas. Why haven't we gotten an action movie like that again...with a plot and characters that take themselves seriously. I mean The Rock was fun, Casino Royal was good escapism...hell X2....but what happened to these truly original, truly strong action thrillers. X-Men, Batman and Superman are just lazy franchises compared to these things. What happened to movies built from the ground up; out of fever dreams from Cameron's head (which is where Terminator came from).
We need more of these movies...and fast, have we just used up all the ideas...
Aliens 3 I think actually was a good movie, just not what people necessarily wanted, or maybe more to the point, expected. It was "different" but by no means a bad film.Aliens, Predator, Terminator.
What are 3 movies can only pull off 2 movies? Yeah I know I'm pushing it with Predator 2 but I like it.
Aliens 3
Aliens 4 Ressurection
Aliens vs. Predator
Terminator 3
Seems like that none of them could pull off the hat trick.
And Serenity? Yeah it was alright but honestly with Whedon, I don't need 5 minute speeches to discuss why or why not you are going to do something.
Never saw Serenity
It's an average movie, almost b-movie-ish in parts. I don't know why it was hyped up as this great masterpiece... internet must be full of ding dongs.
I am very wary of the movie. Nerds *sometimes* have good taste in films, but often some films they like get overhyped due to the Sci-Fi elements in them. It's an average movie, almost b-movie-ish in parts. We need more flicks like robocop. That movie just must have come down from heaven or something. Here it is presented in 10 minutes, with lots of foul language: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Puf0lDhCEmc

Yeah, thats right, what was better? nothing cause Serenity is fantastic
I think everyone who enjoyed Firefly enjoyed Serenity.
Is that on DVD yet? What about Running Scared? It may not be the most original movie out there but that shyte was definately creative. The whole fairy tale theme and that ice rink scene was beautiful to say the least.

yeah I get what you're saying. It seems to me too that more emphasis is put on the general concepts within the movie like cool visuals than its actual execution through directing, acting, writing, and editing. That's fine for kids I guess, but even when I was a kid, I was looking for more meat in my movies, something to sink my mind into beyond a badass shot or sequence. That's what I think makes these films you mentioned so good. They have badassery and something interesting to explore beyond that storywise, acting-wise, dialogue-wise, editing-wise, music-wise, ahnuld-wise etc.
hell, we need the govenator at the movies again.
