yeah I get what you're saying. It seems to me too that more emphasis is put on the general concepts within the movie like cool visuals than its actual execution through directing, acting, writing, and editing. That's fine for kids I guess, but even when I was a kid, I was looking for more meat in my movies, something to sink my mind into beyond a badass shot or sequence. That's what I think makes these films you mentioned so good. They have badassery and something interesting to explore beyond that storywise, acting-wise, dialogue-wise, editing-wise, music-wise, ahnuld-wise etc.

hell, we need the govenator at the movies again.

And your whole complaint about action movies, if you thought serenity sucked you don't get to complain, because that uses all of the things you wished action movies used to make good movies

Serenity has a great screen play/story, great deep round characters, cool visuals, a great vision (and no I am not a big fan of Whedons outside of this, so its not like he can do no wrong in my eyes like I know some whedon fans are) and its entertaining as hell: great movie

What happened?

I watch Aliens and Alien 3 this weekend for the first time, and being a big fan every major action/thriller/sci-fi-ish adventure movie of the great eighties....what happened. Where have all the Aliens and Predators of the world gone. What happened to new ideas. Why haven't we gotten an action movie like that again...with a plot and characters that take themselves seriously. I mean The Rock was fun, Casino Royal was good escapism...hell X2....but what happened to these truly original, truly strong action thrillers. X-Men, Batman and Superman are just lazy franchises compared to these things. What happened to movies built from the ground up; out of fever dreams from Cameron's head (which is where Terminator came from).

We need more of these movies...and fast, have we just used up all the ideas...

And I think “in a more serious concept”, the translation of such characters into live action movies could be just as exiting as the terminators, the aliens, the predators etc…

Don’t be surprise if the transformers end up as the biggest movies this year.

For real the Transport was not 100% original but I heard no hype about it untill I saw it and then boom a nice treat. Not a classic but just a good flick for what it was. Damm crazy hype haters.

That title will go without fail to POTC3 (which might be a good Aliens of today), Shrek or Spider-Man 3....Transformers would be good, but I've read the script...and sadly it's very mediocre.

Hollywood has gone soft, they make everything PG-13 because they want more money. Darkness Falls for instance could have been good if they didn't make it so soft. The last good horror film as 28 Days Later, and the last good action was the Transporter.

Like rated R horror is much better? Saw? The best horror movies have nothing to do with gore, it has to do with atmosphere and story, people need to stop blaming the rating because it's simply not it. As was already mention the Ring was PG-13 and was better than most of the crap that's come out in recent times.

Battlestar Galactica is the closest thing we have had.
Though I think Serenity is one of the greatest Sci-fi films, you guys are just gonna bite my head off.

Are you seriously going to sit at your PC and try to sell me this Serenity movie that has almost porn star level acting at times, a rushed plot that aims to be deep, but comes across shallow and cartoonish, and bad dialogue mostly stupid oneliners that are supposed to be 'cool'. I give it a B- as a film. Don't be an ass and put the word 'sucked' in my post. Average does not = sucked, last I heard. It's worth a watch if you're a sci-fi fan but not what it's hyped to be. Stick with Starship Troopers...
