World Web shooter shop class - Part 4

Dry spinning is used to form polymeric fibers from solution. The polymer is dissolved in a VOLATILE solvent and the solution is pumped through a spinneret (die) with numerous holes (one to thousands). As the fibers exit the spinneret, air is used to evaporate the solvent so that the fibers solidify and can be collected on a take-up wheel. Stretching of the fibers provides for orientation of the polymer chains along the fiber axis. Cellulose acetate (acetone solvent) is an example of a polymer which is dry spun commercially in large volumes. Due to safety and environmental concerns associated with solvent handling this technique is used only for polymers which cannot be melt spun.

I think everyone is just doing stuff privately now that we all pretty much have a sufficient amount of information on this seemingly endless project and with all of the tries and fails we have had in the past it seems pointless to post every little update, so why post if it is not a for sure breakthrough?

yeah actually this place is not that active except in summer when we discuss a lot of things and then school comes and everybody stops posting. it is like a break I guess?

I think everyone is still doing stuff, but I am pretty sure it is just everyone has other stuff to do and less time to update.

Thats why they call me Slim Shady...

I'm back

I'm back

Whats been happening?

BTW, I'm still using my CO2 idea. Pretty confident it would work.

Hey slim, lol, but not much has been happening.
My formula is Contact cement + cellulose acetate = Tackifier. And I will mix that with rubber cement and styrofoam (The solvent is acetone). My shooter idea is
Electric sparker> tank of fuel (a spray of isopropyl alcohol)> schrader valve> pressure vessel> spinneret.

Basically the electric sparker ignites the alcohol vapor producing a lot of pressure. That pressure goes through the schrader valve into the pressure vessel pumping the fluid. I explain it better on my website

So
Contact cement + cellulose acetate = Tackifier. Tackifier + rubber cement = Elastomeric compound. And then mix the elastomeric compound with styrofoam and acetone.

That sounds interesting.

Wouldn't it be a problem refueling the thing?

Where and how big is your fuel space/container?

Where will the pressure build up?

Do you have a design with measurements?

You should watch the video, it answers most of your questions
1. There will be a cap where I can refuel it.
2. My fuel container will be the size of that dart gun maybe a little smaller.
3. The pressure does not build up, the sparker will be the switch and once pressed, it shoots.
4. I will post my design on DeviantART, and give you the link.

And what's the Co2 idea?

Basically, you know the CO2 canisters riders use to refill their tires?

I'll have that connected to a fluid tank, (Open when connected, so pressure is always towards the valve). The fluid tank is connected to an electronic valve that can be released once a button has been pressed.

I just need two parts. And I maybe will have to use hair spray. But this design is very dangerous if we use acetone in the formula.

I have a new formula configuration, like all of the formula configurations they are similar to Micro-bungee, it is
1. A polymer to give it fiber forming capabilities.
2. An elastomer (In my formula rubber cement is the adhesive AND elastomer)
3. A strong material
4. A solvent of course
5. An adhesive if you aren't using rubber cement.
So my formula is- (Barely tested)
Cellulose acetate/Slime tube sealant mix + Rubber cement + Polystyrene and soap. Keep in mind I am NOT a White widow or wadaltmon. It was pretty strong.
