Incredible! You've achieved, in such simplicity, what some of us have been working on for an incredibly long time. It may be just something you felt like doing, but it works! If you could show how you made that, we could modify it into an actual web-shooter!
Once again, good work; and nice formula as well!

15 year's old? we have something in common. and so whats that stuff u used for the web?

This is very interesting. Everone has their own little sci-fi projects.

Specs has his arc reactor, I have my hidden blade, and symbioteman has his hovercraft. By the end of this we'll have our own little team of hoverboarding, glowing assassin heroes.

joking aside, it is really cool that symbioteshost has a web shooter that is simple yet effective. His design reminds me of that kellogg's web shooter.

The difference is that his spins, and that is crucial for the creation of strands in the future. Maybe that is your answer symbiote's host. you said that your biggest problem is keeping the food coloring bulb on the motor. Why not use it as a pump? With the invention of polymorph, making a spinning nozzle is a non-event. just an idea. I like where your design is going. Simple yet effective. It's brilliant.

thanks guys. I'll post all the details I can..or make a how to vid. Your choice. Thanks white widow I'll look into it :D. Glad to know that we are all young brilliant minds...gotta say though. The mess was crappy to clean up...came out w/ ice or peanut butter...not...
Btw. It was supposed to be just mainly rubber cement. I mixed it with water and elmers glue by accident lol... And I've been into this as long as you have guys. Just was too shy to do anything... I wanted to do this since I was like 3.
Spider-friends...GO FOR IT!!!

My grandfather died yesterday morning. I'm going to the state where he lives for a week or two, and this will postpone my web shooter.

Oh my gosh! Are you doing ok? hey, if you need to talk to anyone, shoot me a pm. I'm sorry to about your grandpa.

Thanks for your concern, guys. I'm doing okay, but I'm defiantly not going to be able to work on the webshooter for at least one week.

Umm... I know this is probably a bad time to just interrupt this thread (though I suppose any interruption is rude... Sorry!), but I have dreamt of having my very own functional web shooters for about, say, a very long time. However, I have extremely limited education in these areas, and reading through this thread has given me quite a rude awakening. I know nothing of mechanics and nothing of chemistry (web fluid). From what I can tell, I can tell absolutely nothing due to my being heavily right-brained (as the name suggests). I suppose none of you has the time or the want to teach me what I need to know to follow the thread properly and hopefully help you guys, but could you direct me to a site or book or whatnot that can?

All of this....awesome, reinforcing the idea that science is awesome. You guys rock

To right brained man: Welcome to the forums. I wouldn't fear anything about that. At the beginning of this, I knew absolutely nothing about mechanisms or chemicals.., well other than a few chemistry properties. It comes through researching.

If you want to start this, what I would do if I were you is this. Go to google and look up various materials that match the properties of webbing. For example, look up the chemical properties and formulas of:

Nylon
graphene
Kevlar
Cyanoacrylate
rubber cement
polyvinyl alcohol
polyvinyl acetate
pressure adhesive
polymer chains
shear thinning liquids
Shear thickening liquids
cellulose materials

Those are the basic materials, and they allow you to find patterns in the formulas.

Now, when researching the shooter, you do the same thing, but with existing materials:

pressure vessels
one way valves
release valves
pneumatic devices
t-shirt cannons
water guns
soda bottle guns
schrader valves
solenoid valves
basic circuits

Once you figure out how those work (and the youtube videos/ articles are plenty) you should know what everyone else does.

To Thwip: Welcome to the forums. I agree, science is amazing.

This fluid has these properties. Research them well, and you'll be on your way.

The composition of the fluid itself is unknown, but has many of the same properties as Nylon. It is contained in web cartridges under high-pressure (300 psi), which can be inserted into the shooters. The shear-thinning webbing chemical is in an almost-solid state, until shearing force is applied to it using a tiny turbine pump vane. It is then turned into a liquid, driven through the turbine and out the spineret.

This "cold-draws" the webbing, giving it extraordinary strength. The tensile strength of the webbing is estimated at 120 pounds per square millimeter. Upon contact with the air, the webbing molecules knit themselves into long, flexible and adhesive fibers.

The longer Spider-Man's webbing is exposed to the air, the less adhesive it becomes, although it stays very sticky. After two hours, the chemical bonds disslove, and turns to powder.

Hello I'm new here and I gotta say you guys are awesome! My question is how far have you guys got in terms of the web formula?

Also, the device that cuts the webbing is artificial sapphire, and the valves are brass coated in something...

Hello, I'm a new member, but I have been following this thread for a while. I made some designs too.

I can help im spiderboy in clarksville i just have 3 problems (1 i am only 10. (2 i have no powers. (3 my costume looks like spiderman last stand. Soo i need the web shooter caus i ride a bike for transport

Ohh and im new soo go easyy on me but ivve been reading this tread for a while so ive got ideas

I'm back!
Holy cr@p tons of new guys...

Owl Boy: If you want to use webs for swinging from buildings, you've come to the wrong place. We've pretty much ruled that out as impossible without superpowers.

Every new guy here: We are currently building prototypes to show by the beginning of April. You can ask questions and stuff, but the main idea is to get some kind of shooter done by April.

I may be delayed, because my grandpa dying made me miss the Science Fair, which means I will have to make up for it by doing the Geography Fair. So... I'll let you know soon whether or not I can make it by April.

White widow: Thank you so much! I am still toatlly lost, but now I know where to look. I'm assuming you got all the web fluid from the Marvel website article. I read that too, but I didn't understand the "technical" (they're in quotes because I don't know if that's what I should really call them) terms.
owlboy01: It's not safe to reveal your age on the Internet, and I hope for your safety that you are not actually what you say you are.
Symbiote-Man: Glad you're back. I am still trying to undersand these concepts, so I may not have anything until fall. I'm hoping I overshot my estimate there. Did you rule out swinging from buildings because of the physical limitations of the human body, or that the web shooter may not perform well enough to do so? If it is the body, I am perfectly fine with putting on red and blue underwear and trying to swing around New York. :)
