What do you guys think about the way they have done the swinging sequences/effects in the Spiderman films thus far.
-Is it realistic?
-Is it dynamic enough?
-Too dynamic?
-Does it mesh well with the film?
-What can they do to improve it for the upcoming film?

Peace

To me the most realistic webslinging shots in the films were
a)when he was chasing Ben's murderer in the first movie, the shot just before he lands on the car.
b)the the train scene in 2 from just after he is knocked from the train and starts webslinging after it again til he lands on it behind Ock.

I'm not a huge fan of the drawn out cgi sequences. The animation is ok but I think it doesn't match the movement of the background somehow, i.e., the final sequence in SM2.

My 2 cents.

Te distant shots of him swinging look great and totally real(when it looks like they actually set up a camera and filmed him). But when they get close on him, it usually doesn't look real to me. CGI characters never seem to have any weight. Or maybe it's the whole "spinning around/following Spidey" thing that usually pulls me out of it. The far away shots look so much better because you can actually see the scope of what Spidey's doing. You can really tell how high up he is.

Personally I prefer the on-set wire work over the CGI. Even if it has more limitations, it's more believable to me and looks so much better. I've always said ALL of Spidey's swinging could have been done with wires/green screen if they'd wanted to. I think it would have looked much more realistic.

i love the webswinging i wish i could webswing like spidey but if it were real life webswinging then i think spidey would be kinda dangling in the air or moving really slow

They're the greatest, and Spidey-Cam rules

web swinging has been pretty good. its not perfect of course but for the most part it passes the rules of physics pretty well :D

First, I love the webslinging, all of it. Now that that's out of the way.

This is why people with 1 post should not be allowed to start topics. Come on, how much have we talked about this. Not only that but it's in the spoiler section.

come on give the topic creator a break

The webswinging has been very believable so far in, especially in SM2. With the advancements in computers made in the last couple years, I expect it to be even better for SM3. I'm very anxious to see how it turns out, especially for the final scene where we'll see Spidey (or maybe Venom...) swinging through the city.

I really would like to see more web-swinging in the fight sequences.

I know. I want to see an aerial fight between Spidey and GG

Why? It's just spam in the spoiler section. Plus I'll bet you $10 there are 5 other similar topics.

it's been great in the last 2 films, especially SM2, of course. they did as good of a job as possible, and the CGI looks a hell of a lot better than most other superhero movies.

but the CGI and webslinging in SM3 will raise the bar. :spidey:

Thanks for the reply's.
It's interesting to hear your thoughts and perspectives.

I pretty much take it as though they are trying to realize the Todd McFarlane/Erik Larson exaggerated slinging style that was immortalized in the late 200 to Mid 300 issues of "Amazing Spider-Man".

I applaude Raimi's reckognition of it, because there were years of undynamic Spidey to chose from, and him being a 1960's comic fan could easlily be a stickler for the original/basic web swing format.

In the movies I sometimes think Spidey looks a bit rubbery/cartoony movement wise which takes away for me, but thought the concept of what they are attempting to achieve is awesome.
They are very close though.

We'll see what they will come up with...

Peace

The Webslinging should be more Athletic in this one, just like in the new Game Trailer.

I like the web swinging but sometimes it seems like a "Wow how does he freaking do that?" but hay that's what makes it cool.

i'd like to see more webslinging that looks like it was shot the same way the actors are in reality. less cgi swinging if possible.

I love the swinging. it emulates the swinging from the comics, which will always look "fake" anyway cuz no way even the world´s greatest acrobat will perform it the way Spider-Man does. I been over this CGI argument endlessly, and the thing is, no FX technique is perfect, green screen has problems, animatronics has problems, stop motion has problems. The crew of the Spider-Man movies has done an incredible job, but ultimately it´s up to you to get lost in the fantasy. If I want, I can find flaws in Gollum, King Kong, the raptors in Jurassic Park, etc.

I think the web swinging has been nailed perfectly. It's part of what makes Spider-Man.
