Would Spiderman be Spiderman if he murdered someone?

Peter Parker powers are directly connected to his esteem/life's direction, as was proven when uncertainty caused him to lose his Spiderman abilities in the 2nd film.

If Spiderman was to murder someone what do you think this would do to him? Could Peter's consciousness cause him to possibly lose his powers forever?
