World Webbing formula - Part 1

Elx- No. Not yet. Lol.
That's a lot of people on the forum. Is it because of the increased publicity of this project recently?

err, no. You see, this forum is a stem from another forum, which was the first result on google for "how to make spiderman web shooters" during the whole Amazing Spiderman Hype, but this particular web also caught a few spiders along with the flies. So here we are years later! Don't know why its still this popular though. God, ASM 2 is going to be hell.

So are you in college or high school?

Lol. I see. I'm aware of all the forums. I prized them before I joined this site. I've been following this since about December or so, and finally had to join in February.

Thanks for Walt's channel. Any recent videos? I read his post about looking forward to a video.

I'm still in high school.

Oh, okay then. It was just a bit misleading when you said that you were a Theoretic physicist.

Er... what? You get here, make 6 posts... then leave? Er... Okay. You go find yourself, and come back, if you want, when you're ready.

Sigh, this is what we get for being the first result on google for "how to make spider-man web shooters".

I haven't posted on here in quite a while, a few months I think. It's nice to see a few new people taking on this complex task. Since you new guys probably haven't heard of me I'll introduce myself. My name is spidey44, I have been on this webshooter/formula forum for 2 years now almost 3 in a couple of months. I am currently working on a prototype my designs are all wrist mounted.

hey been gone for a while so whats new do we have a web formula?

I finally got windows live movie maker so I can finally post a preliminary web formula that I made while ago. However, I have improved the formula since then, so I don't know how much help it will be. However, this formula will probably help you guys who are struggling to figure out a suitable formula for your shooters, and don't have access to a lot of uncommon materials.
EDIT: On second thought, I will just not release that one, and release the one with the new formula. There would really be no use to uploading the other one. I want to run more tests first.

Go to the following address to instantly ask questions about the shooter and formula! You ask, I will answer. You don't have to be a member on these forums to use this page, so go there and ask!

Tried to form some of the cellulose acetate again today, but I've run out of acetic anhydride and sufuric acid. Therefore, I will have to get some more, but I don't know where to just buy it... anyone know where I can just buy some of this stuff online (on a budget)?

My pressure vesselis almost finished, I have the valve attached but I have a leak around the end cap.

I can't believe I was so oblivious to this before... sulfuric acid is what I need. What is a battery? Why, an electromotive cell. Electromotive cell, anode and cathode in conjunction with a proton or electron donor. What are proton donors? Acids. What acid is in car batteries?... Sulfuric acid. It's not very concentrated, but evaporating off some of the solvent will take care of that. They actually sell this stuff at automotive stores. Geez, we're learning about electromotive cells now in AP Chem... I can't believe I was so oblivious to that! And we're learning about it now in AP Chem... geez, that's just annoying I couldn't figure it out. But hey, I'm one step closer to the cellulose acetate of usable quantities. I needed to go to an automotive store anyway; I need window tint for the mask for my new Spider-Man film.

I will aquire the sulfuric acid after the AP tests. All that is left is to make some acetic anhydride.

On May 16th I will begin synthesizing the formula. Do you guys want to know the formula configuration and ingredients? I don't know the percentages yet, but I will do what I can.
EDIT: Scratch cellulose acetate off your lists. It can only be formed by the use of acetic anhydride, which apparently has other nefarious purposes. Use pure cellulose or PVA instead, or just omit it.

does you formula permit omiting it? I personally dont want something to strong and btw. are these formulas gonna be dangerous if stuck to your hands, or do they just painlessly come of when washed with acetone?

Yes, as long as you use acetone as the solvent, you will be able to clean it off your hands if you need to. Acetone can dissolve most anything; it's up there in the list of universal solvents with cyclohexane and chloroform.

Tomorrow is the AP US History test... then I will begin work on the formula.

Guys, I've been looking at this all wrong. Cellulose acetate is the way of the past. Take a look at this link:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23618277
I've been too focused on synthesizing an organic ester when I completely forgot that it was possible to use an inorganic ester. All one must do is get ethanol and sulfuric (battery) acid, throw in a little NaCl table salt, and then the cellulose, dehydrate it, and we have a simple inorganic ester, cellulose sulfate. Why, it's so simple it's uncanny. I could have been using this the whole time. I want to try this today. However, if this fails, then I'll just use pure cellulose and hope it forms hydrogen bonds between the strands.

Thats it, im spending much too much time on here. If i ever post again until after Friday, ignore me. If you see me pop in on the chat room, yell at me. This is for my own good. I need to focus on finals!!!

Okay... I guess that's good. Good luck on the finals then

June 14, 2013, was probably the most integral day in the entirety of the web shooter project.
I synthesized my ideal formula and ran it through the shooter. However, due to the way the solenoid works, it wouldn't run through because it was too thick and began solidifying too quickly. I had spent 6 years up to that time trying to do this project, and I had just failed. I had just about given up. I headed upstairs to my room and started looking through some old files. I found an old paper from seventh grade, detailing a formula that I had made up. Thinking I had nothing to lose, I made the formula. However, I had to dismantle the shooter since the solenoid was all clogged up. I just poured this stuff I made up in seventh grade onto my hand, and...
It worked. Somehow, I was able to make the perfect formula spray in the seventh grade with no knowledge of chemistry. I've always had a tendency to overcomplicate things, but this is it. This is the spray formula I have been waiting for. Once the shooter is put back together, I will shoot this formula. The best part... this spray formula can be made with materials from around the house.
Thus, I will make my next video to show this new formula. Make sure to watch my newest video on June 20, on the Youtube channel SpiderDevice.
