Agreed, although I always thought though Birthright could have been a good set up for Metallo. With the ending and how the K-bomb went off in Van-gar chest plate. I always thought that a good set up could have been that Superman wasn't able to get the whole thing out. Because it does cut away from when it was going off.

This is gonna be AWESOME! Plus Kal-El/Superman's the last survivor of Krypton in this. Which is great IMHO.

Those panels look amazing. I so can't wait for this! :D

Who is this "Tyrell" guy? The new villain that's going to be introduced?

Oh, boy oh boy, the JMS defenders will have an aneurysm over that one. I'm sure 'IGN doesn't know anything about comics' and 'it's an alternate reality!' will be atop the list.

Although, I doubt it's that bad (and that Smallville comment is pretty out there), but if the general consensus floats around the comments and criticism they give, it'll be be interesting.

Well, here's a much more positive review for those who may look at the IGN one with narrowed eyes. Though, honestly, this review strikes me as kind of ludicrous on a lot of levels, and the reviewer strikes me as one of those people who look down on comics, so take of it what you will.

Yeah i've heard the villain isn't cool. Lois Lane and Jimmy make few appearences and so forth. It seems the writing was so decompressed in a very bad way. Villain is wanting Superman dead simply because he was the one who destroyed Krypton, but oh snap you got Kal-El alive so he has to finish the deal. AICN review praises how it shows the villains scary, but its just another alien invasion, sure its the very first one in that Universe, but always when big **** happens people get scared.

Anyhow it's kinda shame if this one isn't good, especially because then people will just rant and cry how Geoff Johns trade will suck, because "i heard hes only doing it for Gary Frank, and obviously noway whatsoever has any personal interest of writing Batman" logic. :(

Damn, ign's review broke my heart man. I was extremely looking forward to this series yet i trust ign's opinion. I know, I know, i should have my own opinion, but but ign rarely gives a book that low a score unless it really is a piece of crap (like Cry For Justice for example). Ah dammit JMS.

Yeah i trust IGN, they maybe very hipsterish in some of there stuff but they know how to ****ing review stuff. I may still pick it up I feel Shane deserves more work so this is one way to support him,

I still will pick this up mainly because this is how I felt DC should have gone after IC anyways. So I will be picking this book up. I just hope it is good.

What do you mean? You think they should've switched to graphic novel formats for everything or rebooted everything again?

Rebooted OYL IMO and everything afterwards has been a mess for the DCU as a whole expect 52. I am really surprise I am saying this too givne how much I liked Johns Superman run.

I really like the idea of original graphic novels that have their own complete stories. I really wish Marvel would jump on that boat.

IGN's review of Superman Earth One: http://comics.ign.com/articles/112/1129376p1.html

Not a promising one...

i wasnt planning on picking this book up. i dont like what JMS has been doing at DC. i have no reason to believe this will be any better. shane davis is a great artist, but i havent been moved by what he's doing here. maybe thats due to the horrible coloring though.

but damn, they say smallville is better than this? that's harsh, man!

They did it back in the '70s and '80s. Not sure why they stopped. Some of those OGNs were really good.

I'll flip through it and see what I think but I have always been 100% opposed to the destruction of Krypton being anything but natural causes and the whole alien invasion MK 2,000,000 is pretty overdone. Plus Grounded is garbage and I don't like JMS DC writing one bit overall. The Batman book will no doubt be better. Par for the course, naturally.

I'm passing on it because I'm just not particularly interested. I've read so many Superman origins at this point that I would rather poke myself in the eyes with pepper-spray-coated sewing needles rather than read another one. His world exploded, his parents saved him, he was raised by good, salt-of-the-earth folks on a farm, he became a reporter in a great metropolitan city and the greatest hero of all time. Done. Go from there.

Been looking forward to this since I saw the cover art and heard the little description they gave about it, still am. :D IGN gave it a 4.5 but readers gave it a 9.5

Less than a week away!

Ehh...I usually agree with IGN's reviews but I still really wanna read this. Honestly, I don't know why, I just do lol. I'm not too big of a JMS fan but I'll give it a shot.

That is an interesting point, but as you said, it's actually a week away from release. Not sure how much weight I really would put into reader reviews when readers haven't actually read it yet. Sounds like it's going to be quite a dividing title if the IGN and ACIN reviews are any indication. Those who like gritty, 'realistic' comics will probably enjoy it, but those who enjoy superhero comics and prefer a traditional Superman will revile it.

but damn, they say smallville is better than this? that's harsh, man!

I don't think he meant that Smallville as a whole was better, but that they do a good job of 'modernizing' his early years as far as Smallville adventures, high school, all the stuff around him. I mean, still probably pretty harsh, though :o

Pretty much. I really don't understand why they see the need to keep revising. I guess some writers see it as the 'big mark' on comics, but eh.

I'm not particularly intrigued by the angle their playing with Batman, but regardless I'm going to give them both a shot.

In this case, since it's a whole new continuity, I'm sure they just wanted to start at the beginning. It's a valid reason. It doesn't make me more interested in reading yet another Superman origin at all, but it is a valid reason.

Eh, yeah, I guess on one hand, but you know, I would have just jumped into since it seems all the revisions they did for this Ultimate DC thing seem kind of crappy to me. I don't see why anyone would want Krypton to be destroyed by a villain so Superman's origin could have a vengeance undertone, but then again, Cry for Justice, so God knows what people will go for nowadays.
