So you don't want the Joker then ?

Of course I do, I just want something different than Jack Nicholson part 2.........

He can still be over-the-top and not be like Nicholson.

That scene was ridiculous in Batman Forever. Let's hope they don't repeat it.

It sure was....among the MANY things that were ridiculous about that movie.

Remember.....trust Nolan...

Nicholson's Joker was over the top, but in a goofy oddball way.

If this Joker is over the top it needs to be in cunning and brutality, not in his dinner wear.

The words "realism" and "over-the-top" have been used so often in these boards that they have really lost meaning to me. I'm not sure whether you want a campy, unbelievably goofy and flamboyant Joker or something else... Answer me this:

Is The Joker in MOTP and ROTJ "over-the-top?"

But he can do that without losing the charatcers look and style and personality

That basically sums it up. I want a hysteric lunatic, not a comedic goofball.

Im would Say TKJ is the perfect basis to create The movie Joker from

I think "The Laughing Fish", "Joker's Five-way Revenge", "The Man who Laughs" and his first apperance would be a better basis for the character.

i agree. The Jokers portrayel in the sequel should be similar to his actions in The Killing Joke. He was VERY demented and creepy in that book along with his actions in the Man Who Laughs. His actions in a Death in the Family should be considered as well IMO...

Hell. Yes. Those and his 1940 first appearance in Batman Issue No. 1.

Yeah, but even then, Burton swears his inspiration for Joker came from the killing Joke, so who knows?

TKJ offers a sinister and realistic.phsycotic take on The Joker that would work in Nolan's world IMO as well as give The Joker a past but i think if he incorporated something from the titles you mentioned as well we would get a very rounded and interesting Joker

Yes he can, and probably will with Nolan.........

Let me make myself clear for a moment. I don't belive The Joker should have an origin. This is not to be taken as an insult, but merely my belief.

Any way, the reason I suggested all of those, not just because they're good stories, but that the Joker was "mysterious" in most of them. He was cruel and efficent, a "clever but diabolical killer". He kinda slunk in the shadows. That didn't mean he wasn't flamboiant or theatrical or nothing like The Joker, it ment that he wasn't going to do anything stupid(i.e. riding a Parade Float). He mostly let the fear of the randomness of crimes do most of the dirty work(with a little help for a few public service announcements). The best part I liked about most his crimes was that in a good number of them, he wasn't even there when it happend, a tribute to his foresight and manical genius(my favorite 1 2. This made for a bizarre and terrifying character who could strike anywhere at anytime and police powerless to stop him. His crimes where an extension of himself, displaying his creativity, his flair and his warped sense of humor. That's why I suggested them.

But not to discredit The Killing Joke. It has it's moments, though personally I would prefer something from his deeper history (pre-TKJ, like Denny O' Neil or Bob Kane & Bill Finger).

The Joker not having half of movie is not so bad, if you think of him as all-present threat. I'm sure we'll get to see the clown prince more than once(duh). He'll have a role, one that won't be untrue to the character. Other than that, I'm sure we'll see lots of his handy-work(here's hoping someone unexpectedly dies laughing in the movie during a conference, like maybe the mayor or the current commissioner :))

Sinister, yes, realistic, not so much, IMO. The Joker is a classic psychopath, the one who despises human life and finds pleasure in killing and torturing. A loving husband and then-soon-to-be-father just doesn´t turn into that overnight, even with all those horrible events. He could become bitter and cynical, yes, maybe even a criminal and a murderer, but not as inhuman as Joker. Even a dissociative personality doesn´t completely take over control like that, causing the person to completely forget his past existence. Psychos like The Joker are born that way - the kids who torture pets, for instance - or have very early childhood traumatic experiences. I prefer to think of it as a fantasy of the character, his mind trying to trick him into believing he´s a victim. A compelling story from a dramatic perspective, yes, but the 89 version where the character is already twisted is more believable.

It's also impossible for some kind of green goo to turn your skin chalk white while also turning your hair green and lips red.

So true. But if these people are right about Nolan being super realistic with everything, then it'll just seem like Nolan is a narrow-minded man who can't think of anything better.

Well I don't know about the end of what you said...but if you take the realism so damn far it will not really be anything like the comics which will not be as cool.

By realistic i meant in temrs of being a full blown Phsyco who didn't deal in half mesures and sometiems ppl just flip, like kids that are bullied and then shoot up schools

You certainly make a strong and interesting case although i still would prefer Joker and Bats to share screentime and fuel that obsession that drives the phsycology of their rivalry

So very true:o I just hope this doesn't happen. I'm not entirely believing these rumors 'till I know it's fact.

That's been going on since before BB came out. It's gone so far that I've seen manips of The Joker with blondish hair because it was deemed "more realistic for Nolan's world". If that were true Batman wouldn't have a black bat on his chest or funny ears or even exist. BB was fantastic things shown inside a realistic world to make them more realistic. OF ocurse they explained more and didn't give Scarecrow a costume until the very end. But people take the word "realism" too far to a pathetic point where it has no meaning.
