He can still be over-the-top and not be like Nicholson.Milkman95 said:Of course I do, I just want something different than Jack Nicholson part 2.........

But he can do that without losing the charatcers look and style and personalityMilkman95 said:Of course I do, I just want something different than Jack Nicholson part 2.........

Is The Joker in MOTP and ROTJ "over-the-top?"
That basically sums it up. I want a hysteric lunatic, not a comedic goofball.ragdus said:Nicholson's Joker was over the top, but in a goofy oddball way.
If this Joker is over the top it needs to be in cunning and brutality, not in his dinner wear.

hunter rider said:TKJ offers a sinister and realistic.phsycotic take on The Joker that would work in Nolan's world IMO as well as give The Joker a past but i think if he incorporated something from the titles you mentioned as well we would get a very rounded and interesting Joker
)Sinister, yes, realistic, not so much, IMO. The Joker is a classic psychopath, the one who despises human life and finds pleasure in killing and torturing. A loving husband and then-soon-to-be-father just doesn´t turn into that overnight, even with all those horrible events. He could become bitter and cynical, yes, maybe even a criminal and a murderer, but not as inhuman as Joker. Even a dissociative personality doesn´t completely take over control like that, causing the person to completely forget his past existence. Psychos like The Joker are born that way - the kids who torture pets, for instance - or have very early childhood traumatic experiences. I prefer to think of it as a fantasy of the character, his mind trying to trick him into believing he´s a victim. A compelling story from a dramatic perspective, yes, but the 89 version where the character is already twisted is more believable.hunter rider said:TKJ offers a sinister and realistic.phsycotic take on The Joker that would work in Nolan's world IMO as well as give The Joker a past but i think if he incorporated something from the titles you mentioned as well we would get a very rounded and interesting Joker

Mr. Socko said:So true. But if these people are right about Nolan being super realistic with everything, then it'll just seem like Nolan is a narrow-minded man who can't think of anything better.

You certainly make a strong and interesting case although i still would prefer Joker and Bats to share screentime and fuel that obsession that drives the phsycology of their rivalryRynan said:Let me make myself clear for a moment. I don't belive The Joker should have an origin. This is not to be taken as an insult, but merely my belief.
Any way, the reason I suggested all of those, not just because they're good stories, but that the Joker was "mysterious" in most of them. He was cruel and efficent, a "clever but diabolical killer". He kinda slunk in the shadows. That didn't mean he wasn't flamboiant or theatrical or nothing like The Joker, it ment that he wasn't going to do anything stupid(i.e. riding a Parade Float). He mostly let the fear of the randomness of crimes do most of the dirty work(with a little help for a few public service announcements). The best part I liked about most his crimes was that in a good number of them, he wasn't even there when it happend, a tribute to his foresight and manical genius(my favorite 1 2. This made for a bizarre and terrifying character who could strike anywhere at anytime and police powerless to stop him. His crimes where an extension of himself, displaying his creativity, his flair and his warped sense of humor. That's why I suggested them.
But not to discredit The Killing Joke. It has it's moments, though personally I would prefer something from his deeper history (pre-TKJ, like Denny O' Neil or Bob Kane & Bill Finger).
The Joker not having half of movie is not so bad, if you think of him as all-present threat. I'm sure we'll get to see the clown prince more than once(duh). He'll have a role, one that won't be untrue to the character. Other than that, I'm sure we'll see lots of his handy-work(here's hoping someone unexpectedly dies laughing in the movie during a conference, like maybe the mayor or the current commissioner)

I just hope this doesn't happen. I'm not entirely believing these rumors 'till I know it's fact.hunter rider said:You certainly make a strong and interesting case although i still would prefer Joker and Bats to share screentime and fuel that obsession that drives the phsycology of their rivalry
