I always have such a hard time trying to articulate my feelings toward Wes Anderson's films. I adore his style, every frame is just so beautiful to look at. The colors, the framing, the wardrobe, the production design... is all so well done. You can't help but admire the work.
But most often than not, the characters and the story leaves me cold, feeling nothing. I want to love the films, but I end up just admiring them from a different perspective, if that makes any sense.
It is the very definition of "all style, no substance".

He's always puts cultural sentimentality above all else.

I didn't love The French Dispatch, so I'm hoping this is a return to form for Wes. I love that Wright seems to have a prominent role in this, because he was easily the best part of TFD and probably Top 5 Anderson performances, IMO.

It's also neat to see Schwartzmann come full circle from Anderson Kid to Anderson Dad.

If you love Wes Anderson, you'll really enjoy Asteroid City.

All of my pictures turn out, was like the end of Basterds finishing with ‘masterpiece’ in my mind.

I really enjoyed it but I didn't love it.

Looking back, it seems like I've loved every other movie he's made since Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) - LOVED
Moonrise Kingdom (2012) - Meh
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - LOVED
Isle of Dogs (2018) - Good/Meh
The French Dispatch (2021) - LOVED
Asteroid City (2023) - Really Good

Absolutely brilliant, Top 3 WA for me, behind 'Budapest' and 'Tenenbaums'

As someone who personally struggles a lot with worrying that I'm not "making the right choice" at the loss of making definitive choices, the themes really hit hard for me. This is definitely one of Anderson's most thematically rich pieces, and while I was initially skeptical of the meta approach to the narrative, it really paid off in the end.

Visually gorgeous, narratively fascinating, with incredible performances across the board, including some newcomers who fit the W.A. style like a glove (Hanks, Schreiber, Johannson, Carrell) - Everything you could want from Wes, with an extra dose of career introspection to boost. Possibly my favorite of the year so far.

Remind me again why people should go to theater when you can order at home 2 weeks later

It literally had the best box office opening for a Wes Anderson film, but sure, let's bring it to digital after two weeks.
Utterly infuriating. Work this gorgeous and moving deserves to be seen on a big screen with a crowd.

Every time that Bryan Cranston popped up, I immediately thought of this guy.

Finally got around to watching this, and loved it. Love Wes Anderson's work and this movie is really unique and, unsurprisingly, creative. Want to watch this one again to dissect it more

I just got back from it and it was ok. I think Wes got a bit inside his own head. The
alien
was cool though

I loved when the narrator showed up in the main film in color and realized he was not supposed to be in that scene :funny:

Ha yeah that was a good moment, Cranston is a good choice for a Wes Anderson regular
