WETA doing Silver Surfer as a CGI character!

I think if I was a studio exec., I'd be quick to de-bunk rumors that will artificially inflate hopes, but let pessimistic ones go. I'd rather have expectations low so people will be happy when they get more than they thought.

For example, if the effects are actually being done by some no-name SPFX house and rumors start that WETA will do them, I'd quickly squash the WETA rumor.

If, on the other hand, WETA is doing the effects and rumors start that some no-name SPFX house is doing them, I'd let the rumor go so people will be pleasantly surprised and excited when they find out WETA is doing them.

I'm presuming you're talking about CG shops? WETA is just one of the best. There are excellent VFX shops like CafeFX out there too. But if you're talking prosthetics, then SPECTRAL is one of the top four SFX shops in the world - and no, WETA isn't one of them.

I've always thoguht that Hollywood Reporter is reliable. I'd take their word over AICN's any day.

True that! Then again, I'd take my dog's word over AICN. Still I think that it's true.

I was just using a general example and not making quality judgements about any special effects houses that may or may not be doing work on this particular film. I could have just as easily used Ridley Scot vs. an unknown director for my example.

After seeing what WETA did on King Kong, I'm excited about the possibility that they may be involved in this film (particularly if we're talking about the Surfer who, in my opinion, would look better as a CGI character than a costume/prosthetic ) just like I would be excited if I heard Ridley Scot was directing.

If I was a studio exec. and an erroneous rumor that a company like WETA was involved got started, I'd be quick to shoot it down before people get their hopes up.

True that! To be honest, I'd take my dog's word over AICN, but that'[s beside the point. I think it's relaible info.

MY eyes are glossed over!!!!

Fricking SWEET!!! We all kinda suspected, but this confirmation is very very refreshing, indeed!

So true. I can imagine CGI would do him much more justice than the best makeup/costume job could... especially in WETA's hands. King Kong's CGI was amazing.

I'm trusting Hollywood Reporter on this one. Sure beats AICN's word, that's for sure. SS in CGI is gonna rock! :D

Weta have been nominated for best special effects oscar for the last 5 years, and won it 4 out of the last 5 years.

are they just doing SS, cuz i would like it if they did everything else too. :D

don't get me wrong the last movie had great SFX but WETA doing the human torch......just wow.

First, what was the AICN rumours

Second, WETA is a great speciall effects house, and i´m all for an all CGI Sufer, because, well, just look at him...

Third, if the movie is anything like the first one, quality wise (and i´m sure it will), with a great special effect in the likes of Gollum or Kong...it will be awful.
It´s like putting Gollum in a movie in the likes of "Van Helsing"...
Not saying that FF was as bad as Van Helsing, but FF isn´t worthy of having that Gollum/Kong like CGI.

I said all along, they could do SPX for all flying shots, and Jones for the ground work. Best of both worlds, and save some money that could be used on other things in the movie. I'm sure The Human Tourch will have a scene or 2 with the SS flying. That would be awsome to see the SS, and the Torch in a battle scene.

Doug Jones hasn't confirmed this with his webmaster yet and until he does, I'm not believing a word of it.

I think the information in The Hollywood Reporter will be confirmed as 100% accurate.
