WETA doing Silver Surfer as a CGI character!

I'm sincerely hoping that he will sound perfectly normal. ;)

Good question.
Silver Surfer doesn't talk like a normal person in the comics (his choice of words)so i hope whoever voices the character will give him a more commanding presence.Liam Neeson?

in the cartoons when he says hypirion, he sounds like john lennon on wacky weed. so mellow.

What I mean is that his voice won't be synthetically enhanced in any way. He has a particular and entrancing speech pattern, as Doug says, and he is erudite, noble and expressive. Liam Neeson is too old for the voice.

But I have to say that I've heard the voice Doug has created for the Surfer, and it's terrific. But then, as I've said before, I'm biased ;)

PS - It is good, though. :D

HISSSSSSSSS!

As much as I love Liam Neeson's work, Doug should do the voice. No ifs ands or buts about it.

I just want the most appropriate voice, period.
If a more appropriate-sounding voice than Jones' can be used, I'm all for it.
What I don't want to see is someone else dubbing it simply because they will bring star power to the marquee.
I want what serves the character.

Now that worries me.
It's hard for me to imagine the Surfer sounding like an average human, no matter how noble or commanding the voice.
This is, after all, the same studio that thought Julian M's unaltered voice sounded great for Doctor Doom.

One poor judgement does not a precedent make. If they DO go for vocal enhancement, it should be very subtle indeed - I prefer none at all, as long as the voice is suitable.

In the comics, it's generally assumed Doom's speaking voice is unaltered. This might have worked in the film, but many felt Julian's voice made for a very effeminate and puny-sounding Doom.

I can't imagine the Silver Surfer having a normal, unaltered human voice. Not without compromising the character's presence.

Not saying it's impossible. Just saying they better get it right.

Was Hyde-Pierce's voice for Abe Sapien altered? It had an ethereal quality much like what I imagine the Surfer's having.
Not that I'd want Hyde-Pierece considered; not at all.

I just want the Surfer to sound like a being who has traversed the cosmos, not like some common joe ordering a triple latte at Starbuck's.

I don't even know what Doug Jones sounds like in everyday life. But if he's nailed the Surfer, then great. I just want it to sound right.

Since they dubbed Doug's voice in Hellboy, I hadn't heard it until I played a clip from one of these threads, and I really liked his voice.

I wonder if they'll even have him speak. I was thinking they might use telepathy or something (they'd still need a voice, but I wonder if he'll speak directly).

I'm itching with excitement to see what Silver Surfer will look like. Give us Galactus some a part of the movie tooo.....Please! LoL

it would be interesting if galactus's voice were done by james earl jones but tweeked electronicly to stear away from the vader sound, and no respirator in the voice mix, maybe the sound of kirby krackle.

Well i'm even more intrigued after reading this even if its a biased opnion(nothing wrong with that:cwink: ).I just want most if not all aspects of the SS to be done justice including the voice. Thats why i, off the top of my head, suggested someone like Liam Neeson. If Jones or another actor can pull it off thats fine with me.As long as SS doesn't sound like someone i'd meet everyday.:yay:

Yes it would be kool to have Mr. James Earl Jones be the voice of Galactus. He is a great actor. All I gotta say is "Field of Dreams". Priceless!

Exactly. Silver Surfer is not a human being. He has a body that can withstand the vacuum of outer space. I doubt he'd sound like Kelsey Grammer.
In FF1, Dr. Doom sounded about as intimidating as a Shoney's waiter having a bad day. How they could let that crucial aspect of the character go so wrong is beyond understanding.
I'm hoping for a more menacing tone for Doom in this film and something just right for the Surfer.

The only time that doom actually raises his voice to the point of intimidation, is right before he tells Reed to pay his damn light bill...remember that?

"I don't want to understand it!" Von doom yells.

I'm sure Reed sent a check to the light company right after he peed his pants.

And I hope Reed's check doesn't BOUNCE. (i'm sorry had to do it.)

:thing:

I liked Doom's voice. Once he was consumed by his transformation, he had this creepy evil genius tone going on. It made him very arrogant, and evil in a way I'm glad they reserved for Dr. Doom.

It just works.

Exactly how manly was Doom's voice in the comics? He was no more than an eastern european aristorcrat type, so I doubt he sounded all gruff.

"I was once called Norrin Radd," the sullen Surfer explains.
Alba responds, "Nice to meet you, Norrin."

If that's Doug in that muscle-suit, sitting next to Jessica in the Fantasiticar.... this is the most definite proof showing we will probably be getting Doug's unaltered voice. (Except for the altering his is doing himself, as Hellmistress already divulged)

If he does as well as Chicky did with the Thing's voice, I will be very happy. :word:

Well, they are comic *books* so we can only imagine what was going through the writers heads.

I always remember Dr. Doom having his words written in a very "robot" or "metallic" font. He seemed to carry great authority. To be honest, he always sounded like a metallic Darth Vader to me. I find it crappy that possible the best Doom voice cannot be used because it would seem like a rip-off of Darth Vader.... who is actually a rip-off of Dr. Doom. Oh well.

This clip is Doug Jones giving a interview in Vancouver:

There is a small part where he may be demonstrating the Silver Surfer's voice.
Quite a interesting guy. Seems to have a lot of energy! Pan's Labarinth sounds neat.

:D Yep. That's Doug, all right. Bendy, charming, doesn't take himself at all seriously (unlike his attitude to his craft - he is frighteningly dedicated to getting it juuuuust right) and one of the nicest guys in the business.

If you get a chance to see PAN'S LABYRINTH, do so - it is a masterpiece. It's a seriously amazing film.
