I'm sure theres another Xbox 360 V's PS3 thread but as the PS3 is a little out of my price rage at basically £300 is there really that much of a difference in the two consoles aside from the Blu ray player. what makes the 360 different to the PS3? Also how compatiable is the 360 with old Xbox games and how many of you have experienced the red ring of death with your 360.

Basically what console is better and what are plus minus points for each console.
Thanks in advance.

Man get the 360, thats basicly your toaster, you still need to buy the bread and the other etc's.

But Fable 2? Gears of War 2? plus Fallout 3 (wich is also on the 360) go with the 360 man...

Get the PS3. The 360 has the highest fail rate of any system on the market today. With the PS3 you get better performance, the same games (pretty much, minus the overrated Halo and Gears of War series.) , you get a Blu Ray player (really cool if you have an HDTV.)

Go with the PS3.

Go for the 360. Despite what JustABill said, the 360 had the highest failure rate of the current generation. The problem has been fixed on the newer models, plus even if you get the RROD you have like a three year warranty on it.

The 360 has the best and largest library of games.
It has by far the best online service.
The 360 has limited compatibility with original Xbox games, however, I honestly can't imagine there is a game you would want to play that isn't backwards compatible.

I'm not biased against Sony or the Playstation brand. I loved my PS1 and PS2. The PS3 does have a Blu Ray player and it does indeed have some really good titles and I actually plan on purchasing a PS3 either later this year or more likely early next year.

But as far as I'm concerned, for my money, it doesn't get much better than the Xbox 360.

Thanks for the comments so far, much appreciated. The 360 comes with a silver membership or theres the gold? whats the difference?

and does every new 360 have the 3 year warranty?

Speaking on behalf of the PS3, I'd like to point out some of its advantages over the 360, in addition to the Blu-Ray player:

-Superior stability
-Free online gameplay (the 360's free "silver membership" only gives you access to the store)
-Bluetooth accessory compatibility (you can pair just about any wireless headset to it)
-Hard drive bay will accept any 2.5" SATA hard drive (this means that it's MUCH cheaper to upgrade your HDD)
-Built in WiFi adapter (360's adapter costs around $100)
-HDMI output standard on all models
-The controllers include rechargeable battery packs (360 controllers need AAs or $10 "charger kits")

Well, I've made my case. The Xbox 360 is a pretty good system in it's own right, although the PS3's higher price is not without merit IMO. They both have good game libraries (which one is better depends on who you ask), but in terms of the machines themselves the PS3 is generally recognized as the best.

Bingo. More reasons to go for the PS3.

And despite Microsoft saying the problems have been fixed in newer models. They haven't.

no the 360 still has the highest failure rate. The PS3 and Wii is reported at being about less than 1%. The original 360s had about a 33% failure rate and that has decreased down to about 16%. The newer systems still get the RROD just not as frequently as before.

Gold membership gives you full access to 360 online features. This includes multiplayer gameplay and video chat. Also gold gets you DLC a week before its available to silver members

and yes all current 360s have that warranty

The only game worth getting for the 360 is Halo 3 and it will be available for the PC with more levels and better graphics eventually, which is why I'm going for a PS3. The PS3 is a better system and it won't go out of date as fast as the 360. Also, Playstation has Tekken 6 which is said to have the highest graphics for a console game.

A-M You are soo wrong on soo many levels.

Halo 3 the only good game?

Gears of war 1&2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Dead rising, left 4 dead, and soo many more arcade classics, so dude, you are wrong.

It's worth mentioning that Fallout 3 will also be available on PS3.

Fable was so stupid and overated. I prefer Oblivion to Fable and even Oblivion had me bored. Gears of War is descent but as far as I can remember, it's available for the PC too. Never had any interest in Dead Rising or Left 4 Dead.

Hahaha, this is THE most biased, "help me choose a system" thread iv come across.

Dude, you want to know what system to get, its simple....What games do you want to play??? Take a look at each systems library and then choose ur system. Dont listen to the people on either side saying things like "the 360 has better online" or "the ps3 has the best games" etc, etc. Just look at the games, then make ur decision.

I'm torn over which nextgen system to buy too, the biggest deciding factor for me is....
Fable 2 Vs. DC Universe Online

Fable 2 will probably turn out to be overhyped and under-utilized just like its predecessor. Peter Molyneux is the king of overhyping. Having said that, I don't know how DC Universe Online is going to turn out since I haven't researched it much, but I am not expecting a lot from Fable 2. Fallout 3 will almost definitely be a more worthwhile game, and it's on both systems.

I was in the same position as well earlier this year.

Library-wise, the games are quite similar with obvious exceptions.

However, are you a major movie fan with an HDTV? I am, and it was this sole factor that caused me to go with the PS3.

Blu-Ray is beautiul. Regardless of whether or not it is mainstream, fact is practically all movies coming out now are on BR as well as DVD.

Thus, if you have the ability to purchase movies on BR, go for it.

Just my two cents. But you can't go wrong with either system. Both are fantastic.

Overhyped =/= Bad

There's not been 1 DC game worth getting in at least the past 10 years. That's likely not going to change.

What he said. Look at the games and decide.

For me it's not so much the exclusive games i'm more interested in getting Quantum of Solace, Arkham asylum & Ghostbusters. What worries me more is this red ring of death.

That said i've never played any of the Halo games, are they as good as i hear?

I've had my 360 since June 2006. Never got the RROD. I've had it freeze a bit but that's easy to fix.

IMO, Halo is overrated. Its a good series, but I dont think its the best FPS out there as its been hyped to be by many. CoD4 beats Halo 3 any day for me

JLH was pretty good

Halo is best for its multiplayer.
Id definetly agree on that, especially for splitscreen play, but overall, Id give top honors to CoD4 for being the best FPS in the past year

Yeah, JLH was actually a pretty cool game. It had it's problems, but was worth it to actually get to play as some great DC heroes and actually feel like you were playing them.
They did one thing MUA couldn't (No, not capes) they made each charater feel and play differently

I liked the concepts it brought to the table as far as levelling up the characters. In many ways it was a bit complex, but it was different and original

I've played both, and in my opinion COD4 has better multiplayer. It's not a fanboy thing, it's just that I like COD4's modes and overall flow better. That buttery smooth 60FPS goes a long way for me.
