What console is better for me?

I've played both, and in my opinion COD4 has better multiplayer. It's not a fanboy thing, it's just that I like COD4's modes and overall flow better. That buttery smooth 60FPS goes a long way for me.
I praise CoD4 so much bc I normally dont like console FPS yet this has compltely won me over. Im usually not into competetive online multiplayer but Ive put in so many hours into this game bc its so addicting and well put together.

If you play online get a 360 because XBL is a million times better than PSN. If not then go with PS3 because they have the best non-online games.

For me it's not so much the exclusive games i'm more interested in getting Quantum of Solace, Arkham asylum & Ghostbusters. What worries me more is this red ring of death.

That said i've never played any of the Halo games, are they as good as i hear?
Halo was what made me go for XBox first but then Halo started coming out on PC, so PS3 is the way for me. Hardware/graphics wise it beats Xbox and online is free. I'd go with the PS3 especially because the three games you mentioned have best graphics on the PS3.

Unless you have a high-end computer, getting PC games is pointless.

Free > $$$

XBL is slightly better, but not $50 a year better.

These are the types of comments you just need'nt pay ANY attention to. You can clearly see each ones bias and both are wrong.

I own BOTH consoles and the diff between the two systems comes down the the blu ray drive, thats about it. XBL is slightly better than PSN, but like Timstuff said, im not so sure its 50 bux a yr better. I prefer Live at this point due to my friends list is much larger on the 360 and more of my friends play that system. I also dont mind the 50 dollar price tag because once you break it down, its not that bad, its like just over 4 bux a month and there is a TON of content on the Marketplace, but for playing games, the PSN and XBL are damn near identical.

What are you looking for in a console? If you already own an HD TV and are ready to make the jump to HD Movies and prefer to purchase movies then id say the PS3 is the way to go due to the Blu-Ray. I mean it seems like you are more interested in multi-plat games, so honestly, you could flip a coin and come out a winner.

Saying PS3's Quantum of Solace, Arkham asylum & Ghostbusters versions don't have better graphics than the 360 counterpart is ignorant. I've done my research and PS3's graphic card is better and those games have been pushed to their limits on each console. Check out the Force Unleashed Console Comparison on YouTube, PS3's graphics are better. Just slightly, but still they are better.

No, saying ones graphics are "better" than the others is just a dumbass fan boy trying to justify their console of choice. Iv seen the video comparison for TFU and the differences are soo small that they aren't worth mentioning. Rarely does one console feature "better" graphics, one might have richer or darker colors or something of the like, but its almost impossible to say that "O yea, without a doubt, the PS3/360 version has the better visuals". Not saying it hasn't happened, but to use the argument that the PS3/360 has the better visuals as a reason to purchase the system is NOTHING more than pathetic fan boy bias.

yeah the graphics are negligble. Its not like it was last generation between the PS2, Xbox and GC where 1 system clearly looked worst than the rest (PS2)

Hahaha, this is THE most biased, "help me choose a system" thread iv come across.

Dude, you want to know what system to get, its simple....What games do you want to play??? Take a look at each systems library and then choose ur system. Dont listen to the people on either side saying things like "the 360 has better online" or "the ps3 has the best games" etc, etc. Just look at the games, then make ur decision.

This is the best answer of the thread. It all comes down to what games you personally are into. Yes, the PS3 is the superior machine. Yes, the 360 has the larger games library (though whether or not they're crap is your opinion, after all quantity does not equal quality). And yes, the online services of the PS3 and 360 have their advantages over the other.

However, the most important aspect when buying a console are the games that you like as ProjectPat says. Tell us what you're interested in and we'll be able to tell you what you should get.

Actually PSN is pretty much on par with XBL now.

They both offer online play. They both offer a store (though XBL Marketplace does have the larger one). They both have Achievements/Trophies. They both Friends Lists. They both have message/communications for your friends. Etc.

Did I say that the better graphics was the ONLY thing? No. I did not. I merely used it as one point fool.

And the graphics ARE better. Regardless of how little, they are still better. The physics engine is much stronger.

Xbox 360:

  • Motion censors
  • Often gives the better option for multiplatform games (in terms of motion and graphics)
  • Free online play

  • HDMI Standard
  • Web Browsing
PS3 Cons:

  • Smaller library of games
  • Less people online
  • Expensive
  • Huge
  • No external chat programs (AIM, Yahoo, MSN)
360 Pros:

  • Larger library of games
  • Larger player count online
  • Cheap
  • Smaller than the PS3
  • Windows Live Messenger in game

360 Cons:

  • High failure rate (in terms of hardware/software)
  • Charged online multiplayer
  • Does not play Blu-Ray
  • Does not have montion censor capabilities
  • HDMI on select models and cable sold separately (with the exception of the elite)
All in all, the only reason that kept me on the 360 side was Halo to be honest but I'm updating my computer regardless, so I'll just buy it for the PC. PS3 is my choice personally because of the hardware, the smooth interface, free online multiplayer, and above all; Tekken. My favorite computer games of all time are the Halo games, the Prince of Persia games and the Tekken games. I have the PoP games for the PC, Halo for the PC and the original Tekken games on playstation. I plan on buying the new Tekken and PoP games for PS3 and Halo 2 & 3 for PC.

Now that I wrote up this thorough comparison, maybe you'll see that I'm not a "dumbass fanboy" and I did way out both sides and that PS3 does seem to be the better system IMO.

You kidding? GC was the worst. Xbox was the best but PS2 lasted the longest.

I said looked the worst and Im talking about graphics. Its not really much of a debate bc the PS2 was the weakest of the 3 systems. It simply wasnt as powerful as the other 2 and it showed in the multiplatform games. I dont think many would dispute that. 1 example is Resident Evil 4. The PS2 version didnt have the lighting and advanced textures that the GC version had and Capcom had to scale it back a bit when porting it over to the PS2. Despite this though, I still felt it was the best system

Tell that to the 10 million wow subscribers or the 100 million people who bought the sims or the 2 million who recently bought spore.

Yeah, but then when he wants to play actual hardware pushing games, (GTAIV, Crysis, etc..) how powerful his computer is will start to matter.

That's true, however, he said pc games as a general term equating to pointless with out a high-end computer, wich is simply not the case.

Actually you are mis-informed.

The Gamecube was actually more powerful than the PS2.

As far as this thread goes, listen to what Pat said...look at the games available and make your choice.

I haven't read the entire thread, so not sure if you made your choice yet. Hardware wise, you get way more with the PS3, but you are paying more as well. I think it's worth it, but it depends on what you are using it for.

Game wise, I suggest you look at a list of the exclusives and decide what you want more. It really boils down to taste, and no one can tell you what you want. Most of the multi-plat games are near identical, at most sometimes the PS3 version has less pop ins, or the 360 version has more vibrant colors, that type of stuff. Both perform similarly.

The main difference outside of hardware is the exclusives tho. Personally, I choose PS3. I think it has hands down the best two exclusives to date this gen in MGS4 and Uncharted...easily. It has, again IMO, the better upcoming lineup.

However, these are my tastes. You have to decide on your own. Halo and NG2, or MGS4 and Uncharted. Resistance 2 or GOW2. infamous and LBP, or Alan Wake and Banjo Kazooie. PS1 & PS2 bc, or Xbox bc.

PS3!!!!!!!
We Have God of War III Resistance 2 Killzone 2 Socom: Confrontation Metal Gear Solid 4 Grand Turismo Prologue MAG DC Universe all as Exclusives

But i also have a 360 and i have had issues with my 360 not once but twice my Advice if you Want to be playing more games and and are a hardcore gamer get the 360 but if u want Quality get the PS3

I know others quoted this, but really there isn't a huge difference, tho Live has more subscribers which means more MP games running. I never get kicked off of games on PS3, and PS3 internet has only went down twice that I can remember since I got mine. As hippie said, both have stores, both have in game friends lists, both have movie rental and purchase areas, demo's, in game messaging, in game custom music (well in future PS3 titles, and currently in Warhawk). Really both are pretty much on the same tier, Live probably has a slight advantage but Sony is constantly updating PS3's online capabilities.

Pretty soon we'll have screen capture. A future video capture and youtube upload in game feature is in the works. Home will add more to online...WHEN it comes out lol. We just got Life with Playstation with IMO is great.

Well for starters you left off some cons that you added for the 360, namely the fact that NONE of the PS3's comes with an HDMI cable OR any Component cables. I dont think you can post anything without letting you colors fly, thats ok tho, you're not the only one.

I agree with you on the PS3 having more power, I'm not denying that. What i was saying is that its not a selling point. Take 10 ppl, show em the same game and 9 of em wont be able to tell a difference. Also, dont think that just b/c the PS3 has more power that its always gonna get the "best" version of a title. Its tough to dev for the PS3 and sometimes that shows in the final product.

Case in point: The Orange Box. :p

Thing is i like the PS3, it has the Blue Ray and the failure rate is not really a issue. That said the price at £300 is a heck of alot of money for a games console and for me a dad of 2 (with one on the way)i just cant justify myself (or my fiance as a christmas gift to me) spending that much. i really just wish they'd lower the price a bit or do a cheaper version minus the blu ray.

I like the 360, but what really worries me is the red ring of death. The exclusives for the 2 consoles are not at the moment a issue for me games i am interested in are-
* Arkham Asylum
* Batman Lego
* Ghostbusters
* Kane and Lynch looks pretty good (is it?)
* Condemned 2 (also looks pretty interesting, is it?)
* The Incredible Hulk

Thanks again for all your replies so far, the advice and help is much appreciated.

The PS3 is the only way you can get Blu-Ray on a console however its not the only way you can get HD movies. The Xbox Live Marketplace allows you to rent movies and purchase TV shows in High Def that would normally only appear on Blu-Ray. To get this media, all you need is the Xbox Silver account, which is free. So if you arent one who likes to purchase and collect movies, and are one of those ppl who just likes to rent movies, then the 360 will fill those needs.

The RRoD isnt nearly as big of an issue as it once was, dont get me wrong, its still there however with a 3 year warranty and no cost shipping, if you were to experience the RRoD, you wouldnt be paying anything out of pocket. At most, youd be without a console for a couple of weeks.

As for the games you mentioned, they'll be the same on both systems. I did not play Kane and Lynch so i cant speak for that one, but Condemned 2 was quite fun. Disturbing.
