That's true: the Mandarin has never been a communist. Rather, the Mandarin wanted to cause World War III so he could rule the ashes.
I seem to recall it being established that Mandarin was NOT a communist - that the Chinese government feared him but maintained an uneasy alliance with him.
One of the things that I loved about the film was how it took Tonys character to several places that weve never seen him go or explore in previous films. This film definitely pushed the character to his limits, more so than any of the previous films that hes made appearances in. And for the first time since Iron Man 1, we got to really see Tony emotionally vulnerable down to his core.
Honestly, its hard for me to believe at times that this is the sequel to Iron Man 2 since Shane Black did a complete 180 from that film in terms of how he approached with handling the character.
Loved the opening scene. Loved RDJ. Loved the special effects.
