Nationality before ethnicity?
interesting....
My previous post said "in no specific order."
I can give you one though if you like?

We all know you'd rather be in the Uchiha clan anyway.
Point is...can't we all just be American and leave it at that?
So blacks used that term for themselfs?I would have never guessed that,i thought it would have been something branded onto them by other peoples.
America should have been more multicultural..but for over 200 years America as been mainly a white state of British,German and Irish decent. If you hear a white person says they are "American" and refuse to say anymore, you can guess they are one of those groups.
Why?Because Britain sent people to the colonies, then the Germans came in the mid 1800's and the Irish in the late 1800's.This is why whites are seen as true Americans, and blacks African-American.Notice African is always first when people talk about them.
Once we as African Americans change our mentality then we can and will achieve all of the things mentioned and more.
Anyone else get justSo blacks used that term for themselfs?I would have never guessed that,i thought it would have been something branded onto them by other peoples.

This sounds all positive and all, but reality is not as black and white as u make it seem. Just from being black we are discriminated against regardless of what we've done in our past. It's just the way this culture is. Until minorities become more dominant in the media (where we all always being killed and having our stories blown out of proportion) and become more dominant at the top of organizations we will always be unfairly discriminated against.
I used to like it when I was younger, But I notice as I get older, there are some things that I just can't eat. If... (Sigh) If it feels funny in my mouth, mushy like, I most likely won't eat it. And the only time I ever put Hotsauce on my chicken was when I was younger, and I refused to eat my mother's chicken without flavor.(I used to hate most of her cooking)I can't believe african americans actully like chitterlings, Its pig intestines. It goes back to when the slaves where given the parts of animals the slave owners didn't want to eat.
Warhammer said:Some think that black is some sort of derogatory comment. I never understood why (especially when other black people think it's racist for anyone who isn't black to call them that).
Technically, whites are not true Americans, at all. This land belonged to the Native Americans, who were technically, for all we know, Asians who passed the Bering land bridge to populate the Americas.
He does live in Brazil, I think, if that helps you any.

Like being a lighter shade, etc. Hell, I've had freckles since I was younger, inherited from my white granny, and people still ask "are you biracial? Are you part latin? What are you?" I stood out amongst the rest of the darker homeboys.

Indeed.Other people like middle eastern people or hispanics could have dark skin, but no..they are branded black. There can be more to it.
My overseas friend is half native american.Send me a PM about the comment about the Natives being Asian, could they be Russian also?
Brazil?Don't insult me.I live in Europe.
It's 2007 people, and racism is on the way out.
Raybia, I commend you for your comments, but I'm also going to say a few things you may find to be offensive, even if they are true.
First, let's not forget that it was the idealism and compassion you speak of that prompted WHITE people to free the slaves.
Second, despite how terrible slavery was, it resulted in the pollination of America with African immigrants. Were it not for slavery, this would be a much more WHITE country, and a much worse country because of it.
Finally, I could give a crap less what color anyone's skin is. I think most Americans feel that way. While African Americans should feel just as empowered as any other race to pick themselves up and succeed, it should not be at the expense of others under any circumstance. Maybe if more African Americans would listen more carefully to the wisdom of Bill Cosby, things might improve.
As to an African American dating my daughter, I have no issues with it as long as he is a good man who cares about people - ALL people - and he's trying to improve his life.
There is only one race - the human race. All sub-categories describing the human race are shallow attempts at either a) seeking attention or b) seeking superiority. In either case, it's shameful and should be dutifully ignored and/or punished.
Are you ready for the revolution?
Are you ready for the revolution?
I'm ready for a revolution but not the kind you are probably referring to.
By the way revolution in latin means "a turn around".
Malcolm X said that a revolution is overthrowing the system and the system that is in place now is oppressing and exploiting not only blacks but the majority of Americans.
