Superman Returns WHat does Lois Remember....

There has been a lot of discussion in the threads on this board concerning whether or not Lois knew/ remembered having sex with SUperman, before she saw Jason shove a piano across the room.

I think the film is unclear in it's presentation of whether or not Lois knew/ remembered having sex with SUperman. However, based on what Singer said about it, I think she is supposed to know/ remember.

Like really, if you forgot you had sex with Superman, I assume afterwards you somehow got amnesia to forget it, but other than that, I'm pretty sure everyone he'd have been with would remember having sex with Superman.

She had sex with Superman after the whole time reversal scene in Superman II the Donner Cut. Superman hooked up with her again after Superman II but didn't let her know he's Clark.

Well, after Superman II and the "memory kiss," Lois is supposed to have forgotten that she slept with Superman, AND that he's Clark Kent...that's the bottom line, the status quo restored, end of story.

But for Superman Returns, Singer just picked what he wanted to use out of Superman II to make his story work, ignoring those previous, MAJOR plot points. For his story to work, she needed to remember one out of those two little items...so he made that happen, thereby making the cluster of the Superman franchise even worse. (So in Superman Returns, Lois should just be really, REALLY confused as to why her son has superpowers...she shouldn't have remembered sleeping with Superman...but Singer doesn't care about story apparantly...)

What did he say when asked about the memory kiss from Superman II? "Oh, I just ignored that part...I assumed she remembered sleeping with him." Singer makes me sick. His "vague history" was so vague, even he didn't even know what the hell was going on.

i think its apparent that shes know its his. im also under the impression that she didnt know wether it would have super powers or not. i mean she did tell him in the movie that its his kid. i mean having powers doesnt necessarily mean its his, she still could have slept with captain marvel.....shazam....heh heh heh

Did she only realise Superman was the father when the kid threw the piano? And since she wasn't that fazed by that realisation, surely she must have known she had bonked Superman at some point?

Did she have sex with Richard quickly enough after having sex with Superman to mistakenly think he was the father, and so that Richard thought he was the father too? This must have been within a few weeks at most. Had Superman left earth at that point? Was he still around?

And why, at the end of SM2 does Superman tell the president he will never leave again....and then in SR, the follow-on movie, he leaves again?

I think she has an inkling that Jason could be Supermans son, but its not confirmed until he pushed the piano, but also then, she didnt have time to deal with that issue as both of their lives were in danger immediatly after. She never really got time to think about it until Superman was hospitalised.

Man, the more I think about this movie the more confusing it becomes. These are all good points.

You could also ask why Metropolis has gone from being like 1970's New York to 1940's, why the Planet building is completely different, why the Fortress of Solitude is bigger, and so on. The original movie takes place in the late 1970's, the fashions indicate as much, and you can read the date on the Daily Planet newspaper in some scenes. It would be over twenty years before mobile phones with cameras became commonplace (as seen in Superman Returns), by which time Lois would be in her forties - and yet, clearly a far lesser period of time has passed between the two movies.

Singer's get-out clause is that Returns is a 'pseudo-sequel'.
