To his credit, ILM is an amazing FX company and THX is a great sound corporation. I've always said that Lucas is one of the most brilliant business men in Hollywood. He just happens to be one of the worst filmmakers as well.

Everyone thinks it's great that directors have free reign and do anything they want now with computers, but that doesn't mean what they'll be delivering will be good. I believe there is a thing as having too much control these days. Things like time constraints, limited tools and resources, yes they suck, but they can and have lead to some of the most creative innovations ever in film history which have ironically lead to all the computer wizardry ILM and weta etc can do now. So I get pissed when directors dance around happily saying how great it is that they're free to make anything when it was the limitations that gave filmmakers the incentive to strive for better and better methods in the first place.

It's like what mark twain said about the difference between work and play. Play becomes work when it's obliged. It's play because it's a rarity rather than something easily attainable.
