For the fans who have watched Clark grow up and are going to move from that to a new Superman movie...

What are you willing to accept as mythology? Do you want some mention of Chloe or asian Lana to make it cohesive? Of course there're gonna be some discrepancies.... But how much is everyone willing to set aside for a good Superman movie? Cause nobody's gonna get exactly what they want...

At this point, I almost feel like they'll need to have some nod to Smallvile.... One that doesn't crap on everything but will be a nice Easter egg to the SV followers...

Which, as of now, seems difficult, cause Zack Snyder seems to wanna use Zod.... Good lord there better be more...

Did anyone read 'The Last Days of Krypton' by Kevin Anderson? It actually combines everything you ever knew about Krypton, and a bit more, including Zod, and Brainiac's involvement in the destruction of Krypton... and Kandor...

^Wasn't the Zod thing debunked?

Smallville won't have any impact on the new movie.

I love Smallville and I love the Donner movies but neither will have a direct influence on this film

Interesting post, but i beleive Superman in himself is far more than Smallville or Donner-verse. This will be a whole new interpretation.

Smallville was influenced by Donner, but like i said, there's so much more to use. Although, i wouldn't be suprised if there are aspects you can compare.

I just finished reading Superman Earth 1 (mixed reactions), some aspects of that i liked and there are aspects of Smallville dotted around.

But i guess that's because Smallville is the most recent/updated interpretation of the mythology of superman to a general audience.

which is why Superman Returns was an even bigger let down in my opinion

Can't say because I have barely seen Smallville at all. All I know is that I've seen way too many contradictions to the classic myth and Clark is de-powered in like every single episode I've caught a glimpse of.

I don't see them referencing anything from SV...not intentionally anyway.
Stranger things have happened tho.

I'm a Smallville fan but I don't want the movie to have anything to do with it. I just really hope that the movie isn't another freakin' origin story. We don't need to see it again.

Hopefully....about a much impact as the last series of Batman films had on the current one. :O

I think it's fair to treat Smallville as its own independent entity and take on the mythos. And I think that a completely new Superman movie would ultimately both help itself and respect Smallville's uniqueness by doing its own thing, completely unrelated or not even cognizant of Smallville.

Just like with Nolan's Batman...it wasn't really trying to outdo, or give props to, or fix what went wrong with the Burton-macher Batmans. It was just doing its own thing with Batman.

Very well said.

This is exactly what should and will happen.

I would imagine the idea that he is unsure if he really wants to do what he's going to do, per that leaked plot summary, assuming its real.

I would like to see a early 20's/late teen's clark roaming the world pre-superman. Can you imagine seeing him wondering around the serengeti totally unafraid of anything there. He is amazed at all he sees.

Maybe they could show something like clark finding an injured tribesman or something in the brush. He bends down to help the man and a Bull Elephant appears from out of the brush and charges. Clark stands his ground and places himself between the man and the charging elephant and takes the hit...the elephant would kinda wobble a bit after the impact, then turn and trot off uninjured. Clark would be left dusting himself off, smiling. The tribesman just shakes his head in amazement.

Or if you wanted it darker, then use a pride of Lions instead, I dunno, but something like that would be great I think.

I think there will always be influences from one media to another especially when the subject matter or character is the same, whether it be intentional or not.

Smallville is skrewing the Superman mythology right now. Lex is dead and instead we have a clone of Lex, Lois knows Clark is an alien, he isn't Superman yet, and they are f'in engaged.

So hopefully the movie has nothing to do with Smallville, because everything that I just mentioned is basic ***** on the Superman mythology

I hope no fan of Smallville has ever complained - nor they will - about faithfulness to the source in any superhero movie.

What annoys me most is the fact that they still won't make him Superman. Oh let's put him in Metropolis and make him get together with Lois, make Lex(or clone Lex) his arch nemesis for a decade, but hey, he still hasn't earned the right to put on the cape.

There may be small influences here & there but there will be no actual connection between the two.

Each form of Superman story in one way or another bleeds into or influences the next whether it's intentional or not. Seems to be that the Lex knowing Clark in some capacity in their childhood is a growing trend in the latest of Superman origin stories. This whole angle with 'The Blur' hasn't been involved in any others to my knowledge, but Clark/Superman was saving people without a suit (& in public view) long before he ever thought about wearing tights in most origin stories.

A good portion of what has happened in Smallville has been influenced 90% from restrictions from WB & 10% cast, I mean do you actually think it was planned to have Lex Luthor go missing mid story &/or seemingly be killed off? No, the decision was effectively made by Michael Rosenbaum's decision to leave so he could let his hair grow out & try other things.

Same with Lana Lang character who has been raped beyond belief by Smallville.. not literally I mean in terms of how the character left the show. Even though it was bollocks & I hated it, the one good thing about it was that Lex was responsible, that is the only good thing to come out of her last few episodes.

Then there is the fact that in early seasons they couldn't do alot of things because of Superman Returns.. It's pretty hard to make a show about a popular comicbook character & stay true to alot of his origins when you can't mention, do or use alot of the key elements of his story. Smallville made the best of the situation as it possibly could.

I wouldnt go that far.

The largest contribution to Smallville's suck isn't restrictions or cast, it's the network. The CW. Osteroff. The lack of budget and the mandate on the show's direction to be catered towards a shipper audience.

The Nolan/Snyder Superman film is in a completely different direction. There won't be any major similarities with SV.

Not in the slightest.

This one's my favorite.. Clark is The Blur...while Kara, the same age as him, is a fully formed superheroine, with flight, revealed to the public, with a glasses-wearing dual identity, and now takes on the name Supergirl
