I can't describe it any better that you. I will only write everything down again if I even try. It's really ridiculous. I knew WB was clueless about what to do with their DC brand but damn this is just sad to see. They're looking everywhere for direction and they have the vision they should follow already under their noses. The way they're handling Batman and Superman (stand alone universes) is they way ALL DC properties should be handled.
Focus on making the best Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Flash movie you could make AT A TIME. These characters are too rich to not get the best possible adaptations they could get. Their all very diverse from each other but the one common denominator is that all have brilliant themes and fantastic concepts. It's all a matter of giving it to the people that could properly translate that into a great cinematic presentation for each individual character.
Put talent that cares to bring these properties to life to their greatest ability. The right talent that will make people outside the fan community understand WHY these characters are so brilliant and have sustained for over 60 years each.
Just look at Batman. You have people that didn't think it was ever possible to see a good Batman movie again or who wrote the character completely off altogether after B&R hotly anticipating the next Batman now. Why? they matched it with the proper talent; people who care enough to adapt it with grace. Not only that they didn't force them into a "shared universe" corner which allowed them to make the best Batman movie they could make at a time TWICE already cause of the freedom that space provides.
I don't know why they can't see that their characters being more mythological and epic in scope than the competition's are better off with a treatment that explains why each of these "Gods" of the comics universe is worth a damn in the first place within their own individual universes. Really showcasing their importance to their world and why Coast City or Central City or Gotham City would not be better off without them.
What makes anyone think these top notch directors have any interest in any of these properties? I remember people used to say Spielberg should do the Captain America movie because of the somewhat similar Indiana Jones movies instead they ended up with Joe Johnston the 2nd rate Spielberg protege. Spielberg obviously had better things to do.
DC mishandling of their properties has everyone on their toes, from restarting their 52 tittles to not having another movie property in the works to the mishandling of their marketing department they are going to go down in flames.
One thing that DC should really do, is get the guys that have had a GREAT record of making films and franchises that were once doomed; just don't **** all over it.
It's not up to DC, they're not a film studio. Warner Bros. has the control.
Nolan has delived time and again, give him the reigns to create DC Comics film universe.
He doesn't want one.
He (Nolan) doesn't want it but he's behind the new Superman film?
Which is specifically set in a different universe than the Batman movies. If he or Goyer have an idea for a Green Arrow movie or something they'll get behind it. But Clark, Bruce, and Ollie aren't going to be hanging out anytime soon.

Goyer had/has the script for a Green Arrow movie called "Supermax." It was going to be GA in a prison with many of DC supervillain, according to Goyer is was a "Superhero film/Prison Break" style of film. For whatever reasons, WB said no and DC Entertaintment didn't even flintch to give GA a bone at all. Goyer is behind the success of Blade trilogy and the Batman trilogy, as to why WB said no is simple (like most people that don't know the character other than on film) GA is not a brand name.
Which brings the next thing, by universe they mean different film or alternate universe overall? If that's the case kill all of DC characters, leave Batman and Superman to survive, then Disney/Marvel can come in BUY THE REST of the DC encyclopedia (since according to them all other DC characters are worthless) and continue branching out movies maybe I'll see a DC vs. Marvel or Amalgam Comics film.
And the script wasn't that good. I've read it. It could be a gem with some polishing, but it didn't have that polishing.
I'd reply to this but I have no idea what the Hell you mean. Nolan was interested in Superman so he helped get Superman made. That has nothing to do with the other characters. They're not going to inhabit the same universe or sell the rights to the characters. Kill the DC characters why? Sell them why? According to who are the DC characters worthless?
And you want to see a movie based on those ****** Amalgam comics? REALLY? REALLY?
Since when does it have to be an either/or proposition? Last I checked, Superman was appearing in an animated cartoon... while he was appearing on live-action tv... while having a feature film released in theatres... while he was being published in innumerable comics. So why not have a Batman television series running as well as do a movie?
Beacause the studio heads believe that you won't pay to see a character on the big screen that you can get for free on tv. That's why Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince could never be on Smallville. They believe that if you had seen that one episode where Bruce Wayne came to town it would have forever satisfied your need for a live action Batman. So in their eyes no crossover = The Dark Knight made a billion dollars while a crossover = empty seats covered in dust and cobwebs.
When Superman Returns was in production there was talk that they considered canceling Smallville so there wouldn't be competing versions of the same character until Bryan Singer told the studio that different approaches could co-exist. Even so, Gough and Millar had a powwow with Singer so they could kind of streamline things which is why after season 5 everything kryptonian consisted of magic crystals and Krypton didn't blow up, the sun did and took the planet with it.
Which brings us to the other school of thought that some people think that if there is a Batman show while there is a Batman movie franchise that the audience will run out of the theaters screaming into the night plucking their eyes out of their sockets while falling on their knees in confusion because they are too stupid to realize that movies and tv are different beasts.
And then, every now and then it really is a legal matter of "Hey! I paid good money for the rights to Character ABC so everyone else hands off!"
