What is DC Entertainment doing? What is their plan?

Okay here we go:

During Hal's training in OA he creates swords that resemble the ones from "Pirates of the Caribeann." He also makes a shield that looks just like the one from Captain America and he also throws it; again marvel and disney.
you're really reaching with this one man.

In GL there were easter eggs in regards of marvel/disney. It's kinda of a scare tactics letting them know that they're not going to back down, but it didn't work. Whoever was thinking of doing that it relunctatly failed. There was also a mention of Superman's line.

You know the parts in Captain America when they didn't make any mention or allusions to anything DC-related....as if it didn't exist or matter one bit, and would be forgotten/ignored almost immediately even if the president himself were talking about it?

That was a nod to GL.

;)

Oh good grief. That joke is ten years too late.

The joke is and so is WB/DC, if they could just put a little more EFFORT in their product and start connecting the dots any DC Comics character will succedd.

WB just needs to stop going with other graphic novels. Harry Potter made them millions of dollars, so did the Dark Knight; they need to start pushing for the DC characters now while they can. That whole crap of "having the superheroes in their own universe" blows DC Comics makes their living in connecting stories from one comic to another comic month in and out...haven't WB realized that by now?

I would love to see a period Wonder Woman. Get Dianne Kruger to play Baroness Von Gunther, throw in some Blackhawks, and.....BOOM, you have the ultimate DC Golden Age movie.

I think expecting DC to have a plan is like expecting rain not to be wet.

For some reason, Marvel understood the movie business. DC never quite did. Even though they got their first and more successfully at the earlier times.

DC strikes me as the "wing it" type. It's how they operated with the older Superman films, then the Batman films. When that burned out, they just kept winging it. Eventually they hit pay-dirt with Nolan's Batman films. Even so, they've been unable to make any other successful transitions really. They've also barely tried.

Marvel always used to strike me as the "fling it at the wall and see if it sticks" type. Which worked well for them mostly. Not always. Daredevil. Hulk. But mostly.

DC has never been in charge with films. It has always been Warner Bros., and probably always will be, no matter the existence of DC Entertainment.

Marvel, on the other hand, had the benefit (some now see it as a curse) of selling off their characters to other studios. They had the benefit of seeing what other studios did with their characters and then using that knowledge to make films with the characters to which they do have the film rights.

There really is no Marvel vs. DC when it comes to films. There's Warner Bros. with the rights to DC characters vs. Marvel Studios vs. 20th Century Fox with the rights to Marvel characters vs. Sony with the rights to Marvel characters and so on.

Wonder Woman is NOT to be f***ed with at that time of the month. :wow:

Although Marvel was largely powerless when it comes to movies made by Sony, Fox, Lionsgate, and New Line Cinema (the last two have gotten out of the business with Marvel since then, and Paramount was just a distributor), I think the creation of Marvel Studios gave the company the creative decision-making ability that it lacks in those movies made by other studios, and they were able to look at them not just from a POV of a movie studio, but also a comic book company. That's why they'd try a concept like the MCU which was never really been attempted for big blockbusters before, but fairly common in the comic book medium.

Unfortunately for DC, although they have set up a DC Entertainment branch that is supposed to be the liason between DC and WB, their first project was GL and it became a box-office disappointment. And make no mistake about it, both Batman trilogy and the new MOS are controlled by Chris Nolan and Zack Snyder (for MOS). I doubt DC has any creative input for these franchises, at all. And so far WB hasn't announced any new superhero movies, so it remains to be seen if DC Entertainment will become a major player or will just be neglected by the front office of WB.

Real mofo talk! Nothing but truth. Even though TDK has made millions, I think Nolan is probably the worse thing to happen to DCE. JLA could have easily outdone Avengers if done right but Nolan has the WB by the sack and they won't do anything to upset the guy. Here's hoping Avengers outgrosses TDKR just so WB can open their eyes and see how tying the movies together will be a good thing.

Nice sig Frontier. Nothing but truth there.

It's become increasingly obvious that DC Entertainment has no power when it comes to film, they can control the merchandising and marketing for characters but for film they are a glorified middle man. WB have no clue and the only reason they've still got their heads above water with superhero flicks is due to one C.Nolan.

Disagree. Nolan has gotten one franchise off the ground, and he's about to do it again with another, making a total of two, as opposed to zero before him. I hope that TDKR will outgross Avengers so that Warner Brothers doesn't rush a Justice League film through production.

I think it's a safe bet that Rises will be the biggest superhero film next year.

LOL if you think WB won't rush JLA if Avengers aren't successful. They don't have to beat TDKR and the WB will STILL rush it. They both will do well financially but what's going to happen is this: After about a month after the Avengers is released and closes in around $350M domestically max(sorry people but I can't see it going over that amount), you will start to hear whispers of Justice League Mortal pop up again. Maybe not the same cast or script but you will hear it, I can guarantee it because TDKR is Nolan's last Batman film and they will look to keep that franchise going. MOS will still happen, Batman will be rebooted with a different actor but neither of the actors from the respected franchises will be used in the new JLA film. Why? Because DC characters are to big to be contained into one universe. TDKR may win at the BO next year, but make no mistake about it, JLA will be fast tracked if Avengers do well.

As a fan of TDK, I'd love to see Bale, Reynolds, and Cavill, along with Bubbles the chimp playing Wonder Woman. Heck a World's Finest movie with Bale and Cavill would probably outgross Avengers. But won't happen because of Nolan.

If Avengers isn't successful, then why would WB want to make a Justice League film to compete with it?

But the Avengers will be successful. The budget for the Avengers is rumored to be around $180M and let's be honest, the least this movie will make is $200M domestically. It's one of the most anticipated movies of 2012 along with TDKR. No way will it bomb.
