Sequels What is Fox's gameplan?

My expectation is Deadpool will go from 60 to maybe 90 or 100 million next time. Gambit will probably get some money taken away, but not much. Maybe the equivalent amount - 150 to 120. I think it's possible to scale it down a touch without hurting it too typical much.

That makes sense. Cut the Gambit budget to reasonable levels and promise Channing a big budget X-Force sequel teaming him up with Reynolds and (hopefully) Jackman.

Seeing Deadpool just made me sad that we still don't have any news on that New Mutants movie :csad:. Is that even in the works anymore? I want less solo spin-offs and more team movies :waa:.

The director is busy with another project at the moment.

I don't know what's their plan, but Deadpool doesn't look like in same timeline as DOFP X-Men (no any connection to new timeline in X-Men movies), and if Legion isn't connected to movies, we can't even call it a plan.

Nothing in Deadpoool suggests that it isnt

What are you talking about, they specifically reference [BLACKOUT]McAvoy's Professor Xavier[/BLACKOUT]

to be fair, that was a breaking the fourth wall joke; not an actual reference to the film's continuity

I think X-Force might be their "game plan" now. Their "Avengers". It might be a team up of Deadpool, Gambit, and maybe even Wolverine, although Jackman announced several times that the next movie will be his last.

I don't think X-Force will go the Avengers style where a bunch of solo properties unite into a team up movie. Part of the reason is Gambit is likely PG-13, while I'm now convinced X-Force will be rated R.

Boone as of a few months ago was still writing New Mutants and his Twitter header is still that, so I'm sure he's still working on it. Unless Deadpool's success and Cable's imminent arrival will send New Mutants the way of Wadlow's X-Force or something. Or conversely, might've had Ryan and co. go Boone's way in order to integrate his New Mutants side of the X-verse with Ryan's side a bit better.

That being said, I think it'd be cool if Ryan and co. could sorta corral the New Mutants, Gambit, Deadpool and Wolverine. Not necessarily in that they all have to build up towards a massive crossover, but just making sure the films aren't stepping on each other's toes or finding ways to tie their films together whenever they can.

If Gambit is PG-13, X-Force will still make more money since it will feature Deadpool. It would only help the Gambit IP, so I don't see the issue if they wanted to go that route.

X-Force could very well boost a number of solo IP's much like the Avengers did.

I think X-Force could be their Avengers-style team up to be honest now with Deadpool. Whether Gambit or Wolverine are included or whether X-Force is PG-13 (though I don't think it will be), I think the success of Deadpool will help all of their other X-properties.

Agreed. Though any character who actually appears alongside Deadpool is getting a significant boost now.

The numbers are too insane.

The Avengers comparison is legit. An X-Force film would definitely be more transcendent then any of the X-Men films to date. Deadpool is arguably Marvel's biggest character now so anything he's attached to will be the big franchise moving forward. That's likely even if it turns out to be shi!.

I am thinking it will be more justice league style like what they are doing with batman vs superman

Deadpool is not Marvels biggest character.

Well, they don't really have a game plan - there must be a rough idea of where they would like to go next, but it depends on how each movie performs.

Deadpool might have changed their thinking somewhat.

But, as for continuity, it's very loose! In Deadpool, Colossus looked entirely different, there was another character referred to as 'Angel' (full name Angel Dust was never used, so that's the fourth character to be named Angel). Clearly, each filmmaker feels they can do whatever they like! With Deadpool himself, that worked out fine... but otherwise the continuity is very elastic!

Not at all. He's popular, but saying he's Marvel most popular character right now is a real stretch.

4th? Wouldn't this be the third?

Well, technically, yes, I suppose so... but I knew about Angel/Archangel in X-Men: Apocalypse before i knew about Angel Dust in Deadpool. I don't know what order the casting came in for those two films... but i'm referring to:

Angel - X-Men: The Last Stand
Angel (Angel Salvadore) - X-Men: First Class
Angel (Angel Dust) - Deadpool
Angel/Archangel - X-Men: Apocalypse

Sounds weird making X-Force the "Avengers" of all the X-Men spinoffs.
I honestly prefer the trajectory of
Deadpool -> + Cable -> X-Force (with DP, Cable and never before seen characters unless they throw in Warpath)
similar in tone to Cap sequels and Suicide Squad.

Guys, I said arguably. :yay:

I know Spidey is the merch king and IM had a film gross 1.2 billion, but I was more referencing the rise DP has had the last decade without a film (one he stars in and is portrayed accurately). Now that he leads the first R-rated comic book smash I think his popularity is going to explode all the more. Add to that a certain cache that an R-rated film has in certain circles (the superstaR with the big, hard R :cwink:). He's good to go.

Yeah, some great points in that article. I've been ready to leave the Black Leather Era behind for awhile, so I'm all for it. Future X-Men films, regardless of who makes them, need some of that comic book feel.

Problem is that if FOX didn't latch on to it with The Avengers back in 2012 when it broke a billion then i don't see why deadpool would change anything, unless fox just totally missed all that stuff with the avengers which i find hard to believe
