What is the purpose of...

What are these "benefits"?

you can inherit some dough if your spouse croaks.
you're exempt from paying property tax increases if your spouse croaks
you gets monies if your spouse is murdered
you can make medical decisions for your spouse if he/she is too sick

and lots of other stuff.:yay:

Oh, okay then.

I'm not dumping on anyone for wanting to get married, I personally just don't see the point. The laws in regards to marriage are antiquated and one-sided, and the financial benefits are next to nothing nowadays.
I totally see your point and I don't see anything wrong in you not wanting it. I don't blame you for not wanting it, in fact. The laws are one-sided, most of the time favoring the women and therefore it's not surprising that most of those who are against marriage are men.

It is a two way street and when I said that it means that she's in love with you too. So... it's more about what you want then? Are you saying that any woman who has dreams about getting married or who believes in marriage should never fall in love with you because you find contract signing to be 'ridiculous'?

I would never get involved with a woman who didn't share the same feelings about marriage as myself. It wouldn't be fair to them. It has nothing to do with what "I want". It's about mutual respects for one's beliefs. If I was dating someone and found out that they eventually wanted to get married, then I would end it right then because everything else would be leading them on. I'm not going to sustain a relationship under a false pretense, it's not fair to the other person.
To some, marriage is more than 'just a party'.
... and I would not get involved with someone like that.

... can be taken care of in any standard Will.
... depends on the state.
... can also be taken care of in any standard Will.
... does "power of attorney" not exist where you live?

It's great that you're honest about it.

yeah well, what if your wife dies in a plane crash the day after you get married? Then who'll take care of ya? Feddy, that's who.:cmad:

Are you referring to the insurance?

Another question:

What is the purpose of a burial after one is dead? Why don't everyone just get cremated? I mean, when I'm dead, I don't want to take up any more land-space. The earth is populated enough as it is with living people.

You got them already!! :cmad:
It's been a while... No new developments? And you still haven't given me your feedback on something that I PMed you like... eons ago! :cmad:
*sadness coz I'm such a sensitive lass*
*Yeah, right!*

I thought I was all caught up!

Lemme check again...

I have never heard of the Federal Government paying out anything when a spouse dies. Where did you get this information?
If you're in the military they do that.

whoops I was thinking of compensation given by those crime recovery agencies or whatever, but it does makes public assistance that much more available and they do ease up on the taxes.:o

Don't make me go over there and make you marry me!
Perhaps you missed this.

Yeah Federal Government doesn't give a s**t if your spouse dies.

What is the purpose of marriage? :yay:

This set off an interesting chain of responses, I'd say Bella and Pickles are right that for many it's a traditional thing and a personal life preference but the only actual purpose is to seal the deal so that if everything goes wrong you have legal rights to half of everything, you won't walk away from all the time invested in the relationship with nothing, So it's main purpose is providing security.

For some it's a legal way to win every argument lest you lose half of your belongings.

Seriously what is my wife going to do with a life size Yoda statue?
