I'm a Uni instructor so my boss is pretty much a passive director who has a sit-down with me about once a semester. Very hands off. Actually a bit too much. My dealings are mostly with the office staff in charge of my pay and hours.
I have had hellish bosses in the past though. I had one manager at a men's clothing store when I was in college. She gave a guy a suit that had been altered for pick-up. But the guy wasn't the one who ordered it. He was a scam-artist and basically stole it by sweet talking his way into getting it from her without an alteration ticket or receipt. Instead of falling on her sword like she should have done for such a stupid and unprofessional error, she blamed it on a part-time employee (who was on duty at the time) for not informing her that the con-artist wasn't the real customer. I don't know if the higher-ups really believed her, but the part-timer was canned. This incompetent manager got fired a couple years later, but I don't know what the reason was. Maybe she blamed the wrong person for her next screw-up.
