what makes x3 not so great

Did i miss the part where the Shiar Empire passed judgement on Jean???

Because we arent talking pacing, we're talking story details.

you really wanted that whole space drama in there? do u realize how corny that would of been?!

NO! I wouldve hated the space drama...because this ISNT LIKE THE COMICS!

well it was far more fantastical then the earlier installments...

The ONLY thing that was more fantastical would be Xavier switching his mind to another person...

just because the character had to use their powers more doesnt make it more fantastical...everything that was done was done within the world created by the first two films...

Yeah, in terms of "fantastical", it was a leap only similar to the gap between X1 to X2...

I'll correct myself...the concept of a "Danger Room" is a jump in the fantastical sense.

aside from seeing a World of mutants, the danger room, and situations where the xmen use their powers mulitple times, as opposed to 1 and 2, where they might of used them three times tops?

I'm not following you.

if you guys didnt like the film, theres no point arguing about it.
my opinion is based on what i saw, and it seemed to me the first two were
completely held back from full potential, thanks to Singer's realistic dull vision.
and third, was off the wall mutants and their possibilites like ive seen in the comics. thats my view.

Well no, it's just that I wasn't understanding what you said in that other post... :p

I understand now.. :D

Yeah dude, the third was an action movie pay-off...Im happy with the action adn CGI and stuff...and I didnt need a huge story this time...just as I think the next trilogy should have two movies of set up and one movie that is two hours of fighting to free the world from Apocalypse.

What little story we did gte though was poorly done and insulting to fans.

Little story?

I think what it is is that the story moves so fast and people get so caught up in the action that they just forget what the whole movie was about..

so i take it your referring to the first two films, cause thats when the characters started and then 'developed' and then we were supposed to see their full potential/end here. so if anything i would blame it on the start not the finish.

No, I blame it on the president having more lines than colossus, Kitty and Rogue combined.

I blame it on having Xavier SURVIVE DEATH...

I blame it on the bad parts of THIS STORY

The dialogue was just AWFUL! Comical self-parody in some scenes. Trying too hard to be heavy and just came off sounding corny.
Count the cliches:
  • President staring into camera: "My God!"
  • President staring into camera: "God help us!"
  • Magneto staring into camera: "What have I done!"
  • Wolverine screaming "NOOOOO" into overhead camera clutching Jean's corpse.
  • Cyclops screaming into overhead camera in grief.
and the list goes on...

Hell hath no fury like a woman scourned

If magneto wants a war, we'll give him a war (while hes smiling, no less)

The president was a wealth of bad dialogue that Ive seen in middle school short stories.

LOL

  • "...then Scott and the Professor will have died for nothing <dramatic pause> I WONT LET THAT HAPPEN!"
  • "We stand together - X-Men!!"

I also didn't like the casual explanation behind Phoenix:

"Oh by the way, Jean's actually got an evil alter-ego who happens to be the most powerful mutant on Earth. Didn't I mention that before? Hmmm maybe I should tell Scott...."

Well the casual explanation behind phoenix actually worked quite well, how else would they have described it, Unlike the comics she didn't fly a space shuttle and get posioned by radioactive waves and get an offer from an outside force which replicated her body and took some of her essence, They had to make JEAN the phoenix not some outside cosmic force this is the only reason for the flash back, it told the people who didn't know the real story that jean had always been powerful and the only reason she wasn't as powerful in the first two movies was because of the mental barriers Xavier put up in her mind, this forced her unconscious to develop an alternate persona because that persona- linked directly to the power she was blocked from- was a reflection of the power itself, hence Jean is the phoenix and instead of a replicated body made by the cosmic phoenix with a portion of jean's life force in it they used another side of jean a kind of metaphor for the replicated body in the comic. It could be said that the use of cerebro in the first film and the electro magnetic pulse that rogue powered up had started corrupting the blocks in her mind to allow her to start reaching her full potential and she did

How about evolving like the second movie implied?

X3 seems like it was written and directed by people with ADHD. To me the pace of the movie made whatever plot they were trying to get at seem unimportant.

I actually have a majority of the comics with the Phoenix Saga in them. I recently went out and bought Whedon's Astonishing run ( even though I haven't collected comics in years ) because I'm a fan of his writing. Both stories are brilliant for their own reasons. X3 didn't give either story a chance to develop. I could've cared less about the Phoenix because she became such a one not character. A mindless zombie. The cure didn't have enough time either.

There were so many important events, characters, decisions that were just, seemingly, brushed aside in this movie. The fact that Magneto summed up his relationship with Mystique in about two lines taking place in 10 seconds was pathetic. Ian Mc kellan seemed like he was trying to care but the dialogue just wasn't there for him to do it. Angel was absolutely pointless. Just there for a special effects money shot. I could've cared less about his character because he didn't have one. Juggernaut and Multiple Man join Magneto in an instant without him even showing them what he's about, who he is, what he's fighting for. Cyclops gets the worst shaft of anyone in a movie where he should've been right up there with Wolverine. So many of the characters seemed out of character too. Wolverine isn't the leader... I don't care what anyone says. I don't see Magneto just letting the "pawns" die. These are his brothers. The Professor saying " I always thought you would take my place someday " to Storm was just B.S. Cyclops dies and the professor ( or pretty much anyone in the movie ) acts like it doesn't phase him. This was someone the professor could see as a son. One of his first students and someone who truely cared about his dream and was willing to do whatever was needed to fight for it. I'm not basing that opinion off the comics though, I'm actually basing it off the Professor and Cyclops in the first two films.

In the end I feel that there were just so many wasted oppurtunities in a movie that just couldn't make up it's mind. I couldn't get involved in the plot because each scene lasted about a minute and I couldn't care about the characters because there was very little to care about. I've been an X-men fan since I was a little kid, watched the cartoon, and started collecting the comics because of that. I liked X-men The Last Stand but I couldn't help but to feel extrememly disappointed by it. I don't know that there actually exsists a number of viewings for me to appreciate it as a good movie. If I buy the DVD I'll just watch the scenes that I like and fast forward through the ones I don't... sadly I think the movie will only be a half hour long then.

Singer had setup Phoenix since X1.

In X1 there's a close-up shot of Jean after the Liberty Island wave where something has happened to her. Singer has since admitted that was the start of Pheonix.

The wave was supposed to have triggered Jean's next step in evolution above mutants, and this film was to show her deailing with that.

The whole movie would have been fine if it wasn't for the pacing. The entire movie was only 1 hour 45 minutes. 20 minutes shorter than the 2nd movie. 20 precoius minutes that could have been used for character development.

Tell me right now that you are kidding.
