It's taken 30 years for me to see it, but the film does live up to the hype.:coolguy:.

The film is a killers row of actors and actresses who would go on to be famous over the next few decades : Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Milla Jovovich, Parker Posey, Adam Goldberg, Anthony Rapp, Joey Lauren Adams, Cole Hauser, etc.

It's another one of those films they probably couldn't get away with making today, but it's The Fast Times At Ridgemont High, for Generation X.

This is what I consider the 3rd , in a 1990s , GenX trilogy with Dazed And Confused, and Empire Records.

Dazed And Confused deals with the rights of passage of High School.
Empire Records deals with the in between period of leaving High School and your first Job, and going into College.
Reality Bites , deals with the struggles of work and identity, as a post college graduate .

All three films are told from a genX the perspective imo , and very much ,wear the 90s on their sleeves.

I've made it known that I've only watched the Bronson and Craig era Bond movies. Mainly because I found a lot of the ones dating back to the 60's too campy for my taste. I respect this movie, and it's status, but I'm meh on it overall. I get that it was a totally different era, but it's just not for me. And that's okay.

Now THIS is more like it. I really dug this one and I find Dalton to be a fantastic Bond. I feel like it's closer in tone to my personal taste in what I consider to be a good Bond film to ME. Should I watch License to Kill?

Classic WWII adventure with an all-star cast.

8.5/10

License to Kill is like Moonraker to me in that rather then being a Bond movie it's a reaction to the times, in this case a more violent and gritty revenge thriller that reflects the action movies of the 80's. As a movie on it's own it's decent, as a Bond movie it lacks the charm and fun Imo.

Totally Agree.

The two best moments in the film , for me ,are when Felix tells his new bride that Bond was married once, and when Bond finds Felix's bride , which is another callback to OHMSS .

I really wish the writers had explored how much of his revenge mission could have been about him projecting, and dealing with his own issues around his wife's murder at the hands of Blofeld.

But, at the time the Blofeld and SPECTRE stuff still belonged to someone else, so I could see why they wouldn't want to allude to the past the SPECTRE stuff .

I reckon Dalton would have loved to explore those elements of Bond, but they just had him in one man army revenge mode.
