WE'RE NO ANGELS (1955) A slapstick comedy starring Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray, Peter Ustinov, Basil Rathbone, Joan Bennett, Leo G. Carroll, Gloria Talbot, and John Smith. This is one of my favorite Christmas movies. It's the late 1890's on the prison DEVIL'S ISLAND. Bogart, Ray, and Ustinov have escaped and are working on avoiding the guards. They wander into the general store worked by Carroll, his wife Bennett, and their daughter Talbot. At first they plan on killing them and robbing the store blind, but they soon fall for the family because of how nice they treat them even though they are convicts, and decide to help them. Soon Carroll's brother, Rathbone, the owner of the store, arrives and proves to be a gigantic ***hole. The three convicts conspire to get rid of him and make sure the nice family gets everything. This all takes place on Christmas Eve and day. The 3 convicts steal flowers and a Christmas tree from the governor's house, a big plump turkey "follows" them home for dinner, and they con people into buying things from the store they don't need so that the store will have some money. Throw in Adolph, the deadly snake that Ray carries around in a small basket, and you have the most unlikely and hilarious Christmas movie ever.
