So, went in with very low expectations here but thinking at least I'd give the last DCEU flick a chance. And surprisingly, I enjoyed it more than I would've thought. All the underwater scenes could've felt as tedious as some other cgi-fests have, like Quntumania or some recent monster films, but it worked here for me. Black Manta is actually the only classic Aquaman villian I remember from old comics, hence liked having him back with a once again fine performance from Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and then a decent closure.
Over all nothing great but a better dumb fun spectacle than like T:L&T, The Flash or Quntumania IMHO. Equally enjoyable as The Marvels and Blue Beetle. Yeah, maybe I've turned into looking at these super hero films as dumb fun flicks for now.
54 (1998)
Even as a kid up here in Scandinavia we'd read about this infamous place called Studio 54 in late 70s; How some journalists tried to get in just to write articles about the celebrities, the drugs and whatever decadent orgies that would go on there.
Ngl, a late 90s flick about the height of disco era with Salma and Neve - yep, I'll watch it! Well, Salma and Neve turned out having kinda minor roles (but Salma as an aspiring singer at least got her short disco diva singer moment close to the end!). And from now on I can never imagine Sela Ward in any other way than.. erm, here.
It's a decent story built around Philippe's young character which thanks to his abs while wearing those ridiculously shorts gets a job as one of these half naked bartenders at Studio 54. Yeah, literally male strippers behind a bardisk.. And then various drama ensues.
Mostly an entertaining time document IMHO, but with some really decent over all performances as well. We all know by now that Mike Meyers is way more than old SNL characters which he once again showed here. Also, Ryan Phillipe felt like a true up and coming young actor with roles like this and others some years on but then.. he kinda disappeared?
Crap, how could this went this long? About a disco era flick? I'm sorry, my friends.
