It's been quite some years since revisiting this. It was a popular VHS video rent for us snotty teens in the eighties. With an unknown Mel Gibson here as well (IIRC Gallipoli was his breakthrough role). And all of a sudden The Road Warrior came up on the big screen. Damn, what a cinematic experience then, and a classic example of a higher budget successful sequel (and with God knows how many crappy rip offs following during that era lmao). Also a quite clever transition since the "road warrior" character more or less is born in the third act here.
Since this little Aussie wide spread VHS action flick, Miller as we know kept making these dystopic motor way based action flicks. Always including theatrical villians with super serious oneliners, successfully making them increasingly both refined and epic. Watching this from 1979 and compairing it to Mad Max: Fury Road from 2015 - despite the decades gap and some tonal differences, the bloodline is clear. So, bring on Furiosa!
