Superman

I went with my dad back in 1978 to watch this back at the time very hyped movie called Superman: The Movie. Funny thing is that I was 12 yo, and didn't need anyone to "parent" me, nor did I the year before on another super hyped movie (Star Wars). My dad just insisted, and later on I understod that he really wanted to watch this modern Superman movie since he'd read the comics back in the 40s/early 50s (and borrowed my 70s comics as well). But as a 40 yo in the 70s he of course needed a kid with him to watch a movie like this (times were different then). Needless to say we both had a blast, and I still remember my dad whispering to me during the helicopter/saving Lois scene: This is actually exiting!

I actually had thoughts of bringing my dad to Man Of Steel, but for some reasons it didn't happen. Now I'm glad, since he'd probably just be confused with Snyder's quite bleak version. This version though, he would've enjoyed. He's already commented on the TV commercials about how this new guy looked totally like Superman. Unfortunately, at an age of late eighties with serious heart problems and sadly getting "whimsier" we wont see this toghether at the cinema. Maybe when the BluRay/DvD comes out, we'll see. And if so I'll of course have to explain who Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific etc is lol.

Anyhows, I highly enoyed this. Some dark stuff (the inteference with countries, which of course Luthor used. Likewise that message from his Kryptonian parents). But still we get Superman as the iconic superhero of hope here. Everything just feels way different to the Snyder version. In a good way.

Of course Corenswet, Brosnahan and Hoult (a brilliant Luthor) delieverd. I also loved all the side characters here as well. Justice Gang were highly enjoyable, and cool that Mr. Terrific got some live action here. His little adventure with Lois were lots of fun. Also Lois using his ship later on.

We also got Metamorpho (to my delight), and a huge surprise was that he

could actually make kryptonite! Never saw that coming and don't rememember it from comics. Damn.

The film is not perfect (and I need to rewatch this at least once more), but over all a highly enjoable cbm-movie, and still the the best Superman flick since the 70s. I really liked Thunderbolts, now let's see if FF First Steps will hold up. We might have a really good year for cbm-flicks in 2025.

I guess I'm just Ken. This was a good laugh and very witty, Ryan Gosling stole the show but Margot Robbie was very good too and had lots of funny moments. All the support was excellent and on the same page as well, it had a clear message and was obviously aimed at empowering the females of the audience more but its fun for everyone if you can roll with it and even has a lot of heart to it, I can see why it connected with so many at the time. See you at the beach.

Saturn 3 (1980)

A quite typical 70s sci-fi drama/thriller. We havent had these for some decades now, and I kinda miss them. Douglas, Fawcett and Keitel interact really well which gets this quite slow drama/thriller going. Some fun robotic stuff as well. And of course Farrah Fawcett is ridiculously gorgeous.

There's a huge elephant in the room, though.

Keitel to Fawcett:

- You have a great body. May I use it?
- I'm with the Major.
- For his personal consumption only?
- Yes.

Fawcett was like in her early 30s here, Douglas was in his 60s. Yeah. T'was the 70s. And the end twist is as usual:

Sadly this was pretty forgettable but it was worth a watch for Vanessa Kirby's performance and it does have a really interesting supporting cast.

I enjoyed this and it's definitely a different kind of film coming from Ron Howard. This cast was really interesting too especially seeing Ana De Armas in more of a villainous type of role and she killed it.

My kind of dark, gritty crime drama. Garrett Hedlund was fantastic in this and honestly I think it's his best acting performance. It's a pretty dark film though so it won't be for everybody but it's definitely worth a look if you like these kinds of films.

The acting and dialogue are atrocious, and the fight scenes are fairly basic, yet there's something about this post apocalyptic sci-fi B movie that I've always liked.

Ridley Scott is in his Lord of the Rings bag and Tom Cruise is still wet behind the ears in his first leading role, in this visually rich mid 80's curio.
