What was your first car?

2001 fiat punto, still miss her.

Hell yeah, I say screw cars. Life is better without one.

This is something I've been thinking about a fair bit recently. There's hardly anywhere you can't get using public transport, and it saves a ton of money. Beyond the initial purchase price there's insurance, fuel, repairs, whatever kind of papers your country decides you require and so on. Maybe some day I'll get a car again, but for the sake of cost effectiveness VS convenience, I see no immediate reason to get one.

You hippies must live in pretty close proximity to everywhere you have to be then. :o

Seriously. It takes me 40 minutes to drive to work, and public transportation doesn't run in the middle of the night around here. And if I tried to ride my bicycle through a foggy canyon for a couple of hours in pitch darkness, you might not hear from me ever again.

I can't remember if it was a '91 or '92 Honda Accord, but it was sea green. Next was the '92 Honda Accord in a darker aqua... finally my current Honda, the CR-V in Sahara Sand. I have kind of a Honda fixation.

'73 Dodge Charger

1994 Pontiac Grand Am. My brother owned it before me and was a very rough driver, so it ended up breaking down on me after a year and a half and $6000 in repairs. Sold my car in March to move to the San Francisco Bay Area, and while I'm not crazy about the prospect of having to take a bus into Oakland to grab a train, it certainly is so much less expensive than having to own a car.

When I lived in New Zealand I wasn't, a car was absolutely necessary. Here in Vancouver the bus or train is only a short walk away. Anywhere the train doesn't go, a bus can.

It does mean I can't travel between like, 1am and 6am, but that's rarely a concern. Believe me, it's not out of any concern for the environment or wanting to see all the interesting faces on public transport -I'd rather be cruising around in the comfort of my own wagon- for practical purposes though, a car is a waste of money at this stage.

2008 Toyota Camry. Obviously I still have it today. Honestly, I used to be afraid of driving and hardly ever used it. In the last year, I've driven it more than I did the previous 4 years I had it (granted I was at college for a lot of them). I love driving now.

1990 maroon colored Ford Taurus wagon. Bought it back in 2000 and had it for 3 years before trading it in for a truck.
