What would you like to see in the rumoured new costume?

What about Neal Adam's Batman redesign:

batmanredesignbynealadams.jpg

This is what he seaid about the design:

If I redesigned Batman, I wouldn't exactly redesign him. I would revamp him. I would find the perfect story to do this in and I would attempt to correct errors made along the way as well as make the costume do the work better.
I would take disadvantages of the old costume and make them into advantages.
1. The fins on the gloves should not be fabric, but pointed and sharp. The blade should be hidden and pop out with a muscle twitch.
2. Batman's Belt. The old capsules ceased being effective 25 years ago. No, they never were effective, nor is a World War 2 garrison belt. But a utility belt, as in a carpenter's utility belt that holds weapons, grapplers, guns and crime-fighting paraphernalia as a uniquely designed true utility belt would be perfect.
3. Boots are thick soled ninja boots with wraparound flaps velcroed up his leg. In the shank, weapons.
4. Costume. Bulletproof and watertight, thermal coils and refrigerant coils throughout, acid resistant, padded at the shoulders and riddle with structural supports for (if needed) a kind of super strength.
5. Cowl is pulled over a face plate containing radio, infrared biometrics and night vision as well as video feed. A waterproof breathing mask slides and seals over the face for breathing underwater. (Oxygen in utility belt.)
6. Bat symbol subtle but bold. Dark against dark.
7. Cape stiffens for flight. Acts as fins underwater.
Same ol' Batman. Man of tomorrow.

Neal Adams

I could live with that.

According to LITG, Alex Ross will be designing a new costume for Batman, post-Final Crisis (despite the plan to kill/replace Batman getting canned). So, I'm interested to know what people would like to see in such a costume.

It's flirting with disaster, certainly--it's going to be hard to match the classic costume, and Alex Ross' redesigns are as often lame as they are brilliant. But let's ignore that for now.

I'm sure "Bring the oval back" will be a popular comment. Personally, I strongly dislike the oval--not because it's yellow, but because it's an oval. It's just not my kind of icon. I would be interested to see a yellow circle instead of an oval, so the insignia would look like the bat-signal. My ultimate personal preference is for the plain black bat (specifically, the way Ross draws it), but a yellow/gold circle would be cool, too.

I must say, no armour plates. Oh man, am I tired of armour plates. I'm interested in seeing the suit designed to look like functioning equipment, yes, but not like armour. I'm a big fan of Batman's appearance in Red Son, Gotham by Gaslight, and other similar stories. I like costume that look functional or militarily inspired. A good example is Patriot's costume in Young Avengers.

Here's a look from Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham that I think is pretty cool:

GODDAMIT!! I almost creamed when I came into the thread, thinking "Holy ****, they might go all black!". I just saw the new TDK toys and some were legos and on the box there was a comicy looking Batman in the TDK suit. So I went, "Why the hell can't that work in the comics?!" But Alex Ross! **** man! He's in love with the spandex and draws. Dammit............... *keeps fingers crossed though*:csad:

If anything have it be like it was when they changed it after Knightfall. All black, that's about it.

YEEESS! Except **** the blue. God I hate blue on Batman. No more blue. PLEASE!

You know what though. What do you guys think about having his eyes show? I'm imagining an all black suit, no oval, with Keatons eyes.

I preffer the white lenses in the comic...it makes him look that much more otherworldy when all you see is white eyes.

by the way, I really wouldnt mind if they covered up that huge target that he calls a mouth.

to be honest, having a complete helmet would totally contrast more with superman having his entire face on show.

clark's more subtle disguise and lack of need for facial protection with bruce's total disguise and head to toe necessities for human based crime fighting and criminology.

it'd also make him less 'human' and more intimating but then again it may make him seem more like ironman and i'm not sure whether that is wanted or not.

if it was to be covered, i imagine something more like an optimus prime plate for bats rather than the mouth slit seen on iron man's costume to truelly distinguise between them.

i'm not sure about the fabric from begins, just doesn't work with bats...

i could easily see this being maniped to look like a batman cowl and it being seen as an effective design. the metal mouth can go with the metal bat emblem from the justice lords outfit to compliment it and have a decent overall look.

STILL LAUGHING ABOUT THIS! :woot: :woot: :oldrazz: :oldrazz:
That's the spirit! :woot:
You know, Madonna could have been a great Catwoman back in the days, imo.
Knowing how Alex Ross loves to redesign, I'd say it'll be mostly black.

The man loves to plagiarize himself.
That's a talented SOB!
Now, seriously, I think an all black Bats would be cool

The triangular design is really ugly on Spider-Man, not so bad on Captain America.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Justice Lord Batman in the comics.

A body armor suit reminiscent of B89's is my choice. High time to go hardcore.

Am i the only one who isn't really interested in seeing a re-designed costume? I think it's fine the way it is. Maybe i'm just used to it, but it seems fine the way it is. I wouldn't mind having the oval back, though. But my problem with the oval is how it's drawn by various artists. Some draw it flat on his chest, while others draw it to match the surface of his skin, so it has dimension(which is what i prefer). I dont know, it's just symbolic to me, as opposed to the black bat. I mean, yea, it's bright yellow, but Batman DOES have a cape to cover it when necessary and the whole target thing is pretty simple and works. It's not like they'd shoot Batman in the face to begin with though.

I did a manip of one of those David Williams Year One costumes that i wouldn't mind seeing in the books. I just darkened the yellow circle a bit and gave him a pouch belt. It looks pretty cool. That or Neal Adams' new costume. It's practical. I don't want anything drastic like that Captain America re-design(which is awful in my opinion. The Spidey one is alright, but for Cap, god no).

Besides, if they do something complicated, depending on whose drawing it, it's gonna look awful. I was browsing through that one Countdown tie-in where it was Gotham By Gaslight Batman vs JSA Liberty Files Batman vs Bloodstorm Batman. Not only did the art suck to begin with, but the Gotham by Gaslight and JSA Liberty Files costumes were butchered. Some people just can't draw that stuff. Besides, if i HAD to make a choice, i wouldn't mind seeing Bermejo's costume designs. I really enjoy his take. But i'm not really interested in seeing major costume changes.

But correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't the Superman costume change really not do well?

You mean good ol' Electric Blue?

No, it didn't. And that's why this won't last, either.

Electric Blue failing had nothing to do with the costume, and was more due to the fact that they changed every single thing about his powers...cause that's what Superman needed...more powers ...but if the suit really is an improvement, which lets be serious here, there is room for, it could stick.

I liked Batman's costume in No Man's Land. It was a lot darker with the yellow oval and the utility belt was the same he wears now. It looked great.

id like to see more artists redesign or tweak current costumes. jim lee's teaser for All Star was pretty cool as well.

What would I want in a new costume?

No black undies. Those have needed to be ditched for some time now.

I think the traditional dark grey would be cool for the suit, BUT MAKE IT DARK... NOT FLASHY & NOT ARMORY EITHER (he's not GI JOE)

get rid of the undies and make it more of a streamlined pants feel underneath the belt. As if the top and the bottom of the suit are one peice

The Cowl needs to have longer ears BUT NOT TOO LONG

the belt needs to be a yellow/tan color & make it as close to a modern police belt as possible...

AS FOR THE SYMBOL... a circular (INSTEAD OF OVAL) stylized bat symbol inside a good sized cream colored circle in the center of his chest

THE CAPE IS FINE LEAVE IT ALONE

I thought the NO MAN'S LAND look was great, minus the bright yellow of the oval and the belt. I had no idea Alex Ross had been tapped to do a redesign. He'll probably focus on making Batman's codpiece look as big as possible.

As cool as the traditional design looks on paper, I think it's time for Batman to get serious and distinguish himself from the rest of the superheroes. It's time for the suit to become all black for an extended period of time, and to look less like a color-coded costume, and more like a creature of the night. The ability exists for artists to make black bats on a black field now and various textures, so the oval need not return for this to take place.

Lose the briefs. They're just pointless and silly looking. Redesign the belt to make it look sleeker and less obvious, cumbersome and garish. Maybe something along the lines of FOREVER's design, where the gadgets snap into or fold out of it.

I'd also like to see something new done with the cowl. Maybe a bit more like a helmet, with a thicker appearance. And what do you all think of being able to see Batman's eyes through the cowl for a while?

im happy with the way it is. if anything i would have DC decide is batman blue or black and stick with one ( i think prefer black). i like the black bat over the oval, but if it came back i wouldnt fuss.

im just really tired of alex ross and ive always hated his batman so im not thrilled hes being allowed to redesign him. im not all too crazy about the new cap design, i didnt care for his spiderman and definitely not his x-men.
