What's everyone's opinion on the mild banning of junk food from American schools?

I think the real problem is that kids in elem.school and middle school are just getting way too fat, part of the reason is cause thier parents are fat also.believe it or not you are in a way a reflection of your parents..I've never seen fat parents with skinny kids.

But i'm seeing more and more fat kids w/ skinny parents....therein lies the problem....;)

i believe you should stop it while they are younger. elementary and middle schools yes, high school, probably not. the thing is is that i'm seeing younger and younger kids highly obese and it just saddens and sickens me all at the same time. i was watching law and order :svu. and one really obese kid was on the stand. he was talking about his home life as a kid. basically his mother had to work all the time so she'd just plant him in front of the tv and just order in food or they'd get fast food. even though the story was fiction it's not far from the truth of today's fact. i just feel that if you help them develop better eating habits while they are younger, they will be smarter of what they put in their bodies and how to take care of themselves while they get older.

me personally, i'm a moderation kind of girl. i love working out, it's a natural high for me. but dieting.....i hate that word. i really do. my eating habits consist of almost the healthiest alternative to anything. wheat bread, wheat pasta. and i alternate from brown rice to white rice. from time to time. i don't have a big sweet tooth and i actually like diet soda better than whole soda.

the thing is is that i developed these habits as i got older. when i was younger i'd watch soo much tv and eat a lot of junk. now after eating junk at school after a little party, i felt nausious.

Actually, interestingly enough, you've got to watch it with the Diet soda too. Phenylalenine (a part of the sweetener they use) can build up and cause migraines and brain problems. You need to drink a good bit to cause a problem (at least 4 or 5 cans daily) but I see people drink more that that

Not that you necessarily are Jolie. Just in general.

And it's the problem of the parents and their doctor. Not their neighbor, friend, co-worker, classmate, boss, carpool buddies, etc...

We live in America, if we wanna be fat than we can be fat.

I wonder what New York would be like if everyone were obese. Especially in the winter.

I graduated High School in 2003 and they had junk food banned there. The vending machines had like..dried fruit, apples, and peanuts. Nobody bought it.

I think it's great. We have ten year olds whose test scores don't matter because they've developed diabetes to the point that they won't live past 28.

There are alot of things that the parent's should be responsible for, but they are not...that is where the school can help take up the slack...i'm not just a teacher, i'm the cop, the counselor, the parent alot of the time as well....thats just how it is...the home is not what it was a few decades ago....for some kids school is the most positive part of their day....home in many cases is not....

Well if they replace junk food machies with healthy foods and nobody buys them then sooner or later they will have to change back or get rid of them completely. But they do have machines now that sell nestle quick milk:up:

You are right the home is not what it was a few decades ago, but the main question is whose fault is that? Is it the government, the overworked parents or the parents who rely on the government to raise their kids?

Theres all kinds of things that are happening in the home....63% of children in the US do not live w/ both biological parents, thats one factor, a larger % of those kids come home to an empty house until around 6:00 p.m. on average...more outside influences hitting kids than ever before....its just a different world...it takes everyone, the teacher, the parent, everyone to get kids where they need to go....

It doesn't take the neighbors, postman, pizza guy, plumber, AC repairman, FedEx/UPS/DHL delivery dude....

Really in a utopian society everyone should be able to set a good example for eveyone else. I know we are never going to be there but that doesn't me we should behave like we want and not care about others.

There's nothing that states I have to raise someone else's kid. If I became a father, then the only children I would raise would be my own. Since that will never happen, I have no part in the upbringing of children.

the most i've consumed was two a day. i try not t ogo overboard with the diet soda. i'm starting to drink more water so that should help.

I normally don't either. But at was somewhere with an unlimited soda fountain, and was on my fifth or sixth cup of Diet Coke when I remembered Biology class.

ya i was a soda addict when i was younger. they had these little cokes in this one convenient store. i consumed about 5. a day

I think it's really stupid. My school got rid of it this year. I personally find the whole idea absolutely stupid. They are giving us healthy choices for food, while taking away the bad ones. Leaving us with no choice other than healthy food.

High schoolers can make their own decisions...i mean...caffiene gets me through the day
