whats so bad about MJ and the romance?

Its a truely wonderful love story.

Unless you're John Jameson, then you're MJ's marital "fling" because she's confused.

Yeah I heard he went into deep depression after she ran out on him, it took him years to get over it, he really did love her :(

Nah I am kidding he ain't important :word:

MJ and John getting stuck in a loveless marriage would have been so much better. :whatever:

One of the best, minus Spider-Man 3.

I was mostly talking about SM2, but even in SM3 it is better than most comic book romances which are extremely basic. Female characters in particular tend to be underwritten and either Mary Sues or Damsels in Distress devoid of personality.

Now, my personal favorite is Clark & Lois from the first two Superman films, but that includes things like acting and chemistry. Purely on the page, I would probably have to go with Peter & MJ.

That's a good point. Usually love interests are there without their own story, just there to serve as a romantic plot device. I'd put Peter and MJ (from Spider-Man 1 and 2) in the top 3.

My number one is Batman and Andrea Beaumont from Mask of the Phantasm. Surprise surprise Andrea had her own story, she was fully fleshed out, and she was definitely no Mary Sue.

I was thinking live action, but yeah, Bruce and Andrea was a great romance. I agree it was probably better than any in a live action comic book film. Easily the best of any Batman movie.

I wouldn't say Peter and MJ's relationship is good because it's complicated. I agree that nuanced relationships obviously are better than two-dimensional ones, but complicated does not by default mean good. Peter and MJ's relationship is a prime example of that.

Nobody mentioned the word complicated as one of the reasons why it's so good. But you're right there is complexity to it.

I'd say the top CBM relationship is Tony+Pepper.

Peter and MJ relationship along with Tony and Pepper's are the best romances in superhero movies. I can't even think of other that was at least decent aside from maybe Cap and Peggy.

Dunst and Maguire had the chemistry but it was really poor writing on MJ's character.

Every female character was pretty much turned ito a damsil in distress, particularly MJ. She gets kidnapped over and over again and you begin to wonder why anybody cares to save her. Her motivations for being with lots of men is never really explored, except in 2.1 where she explains John anyway as he's the safe option. Honestly she just ended up being the biggest **** in CBM history, who else has been with that many men?

The rest of the women were either in there for a short time, offering cookies (traditional gender roles?), screaming or getting kidnapped but hey Aunt May gives the best advice ever... or the worst (SM3) so it's not a total lost cause. It's an industry secret... But Michael Bay helped out Raimi with the female characters and extras.

Outside of a few X-Men characters, Black Widow, Gwen (Stone), Lois Lane (Adams) and Maria Hill there hasn't been any strong female leads in the genre, hopefully Wonder Woman, Black Cat and Captain Marvel films will change Women's image in the genre
