I am in the middle of reading The Hobbit, its an amazing book considering how old it is, its definitely is a timeless book.

Finished "Independence Day" by Richard Ford yesterday. Really, really loved it. Beautiful clear writing, you really feel connected to Frank and his son Paul.
I genuinely loved this book. Will have to read it again soon. Also really want to read "The Lay of the Land" by Ford now, picks up after this by 15 years. Really interested into where the character will be now.

The book I bought last week was "The Sisters Brothers" by Patrick DeWitt. Been described as a darkly comic Western and I am terribly excited to start reading it.

Are you going to read The Lord of the Rings trilogy next? If so, be prepared. All of the humor and ease of language in The Hobbit ends as soon as that book does.

It's a maddening, rewarding, and utterly draining experience to read them back-to-back-to-back-to-back. But if I can do it, so can you. I have faith.

thisclose to finishing Chloe King. not really a good book imo but i hate not finishing things

I remember when the return of the king was coming out i rented the book and after the first few pages i return it, but then again i was a teenager back then, i think am ready to give another try.

Reading The Lord of the Rings strieght through is far less draining than reading The Silmarillion once. :)

Last book I read:

Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell (Awesome book!)

So I've heard. I politely refuse to go there.

Do it! I threw The Hobbit across the room when I was in 6th grade. I reread it at the top of the year (and then read the LOTR trilogy immediately after), and adored it's humor, warmth and word-play.

Reading Christopher Paolini ' Inheritance' so far its good....but Poalini didnt learn frm past mistakes...some prose of his very boring and too expository.....

When I wanted to read the LOTR I had to reread the first chapter about 3 times before I could manage to get past it and actually into the story. That first chapter is awful, but after that it's a great read.

Just finished Terry Pratchett's "The Last Continent" (part of the Disc World series) and I'm now reading Alison Baird's "The Stone of the Stars" (Book 1 of the Dragon Throne series)

started the X-Men Civil War Graphic Novel today

Well I read all these book/stories for my Middle East & Asia World Lit class this semester:

- Arabian Nights (specifically Seven Voyages of Sinbad and Ali Baba & the Forty Thieves, want to get around to reading Aladdin and the Magic lamp even though it isn't required.
- Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en
- Conference of the Birds by Farid ud-Din Attar
- Unto Death: Two Novellas by Amos Oz (Sooooo boring)
- The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
- The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi (LOOOOVED this)

Now that I can start reading again for my interest I've reading a fairytale anthology called Happily Ever After. Really enjoying it thus far!

Just finished Inheritance. Torn between throwing it out the window in rage or silently putting it down and staring at the wall for a while in mourning. I chose the latter.

Girl with the dragon tattoo - Stieg Larsson, interesting story.

Yeah I was in the same situation, but just thought i'd read the book first, and to be honest that has given me more interest in the film, and also the interest in the other two books in the trilogy.

Friedrich Engels, Anti-Dühring. It's basically a polemic demolishing the arguments of this guy, Eugen Dühring (a now-forgotten figure), who said in the late 19th century that he had invented a whole new system of socialism that made Marx obsolete. Lenin recommended Engels' book as a textbook of scientific socialism.

Reading it I found many similarities to a more recent book by Alan Woods, Reformism or Revolution: Marxism and Socialism of the 21st Century, which is a polemic against this guy Heinz Dieterich, who fancies himself an advisor to Hugo Chavez and also claims to have developed a whole new system of socialism that makes Marx obsolete.

I highly recommend both books, but Alan Woods is more intelligible to a modern audience.

Also read recently metal scholar Martin Popoff's book Dio: A Light in the Black, which analyzes every single Dio album and encouraged me to look deeper into the band's work from the 90s.

Crisis On Infinite Earths

I forgot how f'n good the whole thing was!
