First time seeing the prior X-Men films, and yes, I watched them in that order, as it's the proper chronological order. I enjoyed them all, though The Last Stand is probably my least favorite for a number of reasons. XMOW was fun despite it's flaws and the first two are pretty equal for me in terms of quality and enjoyment.
Dune is one of those flawed but very interesting movies. For the average person who has never seen it before I imagine the plot can be pretty dense but there are a lot of interesting ideas about mysticism, fate, and the power of man tht are translated from the book. Sometimes well sometimes its a little hard to follow. But its one of those movies that fascinates me on many levels. Visually its stunning.
Dune (extended version)
6/10
Decided to watch them back to back for the first time. The extended version adds some interesting bits but its just drags at times and is too labored to watch often because it was so long. I can see why I liked it better years ago aired in two parts on tv like a miniseries.
Some of the new material seems redundant and I think I prefer the theatrical version. I'll admit the extended version tries to make the story more clear and in some cases succeeds in explained some things better.
Its finally here and I could start off by saying it doesnt disappointed me, right from the beginning it doesnt waste time and you just plunge into a roller-coaster ride. Radcliffe, Grint and Watson who has brought the characters alive for many years now and seeing them maturing from the child actors they were to the young actors they are now, its itself a spectacular sight. The acting from the others are good as well, especially Rickman, when it was his moment was handled well but since the focus here is squarely on Harry it allows Radcliffe to truly shine and he gives his best.
Its typical that when it comes to adaptation that they cant fit everything and while theres stuff that were in the book that didnt make it or which I thought couldve handled better, Yates, who seems to manages to handle better for every movies balanced well between most of the expected action-spectacled scenes and the equality to dramatic progression in the narrative. I gotta to say though that the [BLACKOUT]epilogue[/BLACKOUT] was handled awkward. The make-up arent really convincing but that doesnt made me left the theatre unsatisfied. After ten years the Harry Potter movie series has come to an end, and I can say its an achievement itself that the series maintained a high quality throughout the years and wrapping up with a wonderful conclusion to a great series.
Yates comes in with full confidence and it doesn't even seem like he directed the fifth. It's such a great change of pace where it was starting to feel a little stale. Lots of subtlety with the best humor too. And the cinematography is perhaps the best.
You know theres a problem when the live action Iron Man had a more exciting and action heavy story than the animated film, which shouldn't be nearly as limited by things like budget or real world issues.
Makes me happy the Downey film dropped some elements that Marvel had wanted to use in a live action film for years that ended up being used in the animated film.
