Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. My 7 year old was explaining the anatomy of an Alien and how he would kill one. He's put a lot of thought into it.

It's a movie that tries to be a survival drama, but also a romantic drama at the same time. On paper it should be pretty easy, but the film goes out its way to constantly shift tones. You'll get whiplash by how many times it goes back and forth on showing you before the storm and after the storm. That being said, Shailene Woodley does give a great performance and she's definitely trying to branch out of the young teen demo. Sam Claflin also gives a pretty good performance and the chemistry does work for the most part. Overall, it's a sloppy execution on a film that should be pretty straight forward.

Ghoul

I really enjoyed it.. it was really well crafted. While it may say it's a Netflix miniseries, it's got the length of a full feature film. I thought it was pretty refreshing that this movie deals with the Jinn rather than your usual Christian demon flicks we get here. As for the story, they really took the Conjuring playbook and made sure to give these characters backstories and a real plot. The acting was also really well done...way above the usual Bollywood films. Radhika Apte got some serious range. As for the scares, it's above average than your regular horror flick, even though you spot it coming. It's cliched but the execution works really well. Overall, it's a really worth checking out if you want something new and different.

Jack Reacher

I only read one novel and already saw the sequel. This first one is solid. It's not an explosive action blockbuster. But steady

HARRY POTTER
  • Sorcerer/Philosopher Stone
  • Chamber of Secrets
  • Prisoner of Azkaban

I enjoyed these movies, but I don't feel the great deal of joy I used to have for them a decade ago.
I'm finally working my way into watching the last three movies, which I have neither watched clips from or even read tidbits of the two books they adapt.

Modesty Blaise (1966). This movie had nothing to do with the original Modesty Blaise from the books and comics. Disappointing.

This SyFy movie called Toxic Shark which is every bit as bad as you think. It's a shark that shoots toxic crap from a hole in its head and zombifies anyone it doesn't eat.

I've always liked Contact. Probably one of my favorite Jodie Foster movies, and hey - it's always nice to see Mcconaughey's earlier work. I've always been a fan of how the movie tackled the topic of faith, and how - at the end, Jodie Foster's character naturally came around to appreciate and relate to Mcconaughey's.

For some reason I always forget that McConaughey is in Contact until I watch it. Good film.
