The Dark Knight What's up with the stupid goons?

The Joker's nuts so he hires complete headcases. Remember the bits of leaked script? One of his goons said "the boss said he'd stop the voices, go inside and replace them with bright lights, like Christmas". Of course I'm paraphrasing but the fact remains that he's probably been hiring the dregs of the city. Cut-throats, derelicts and former mental patients.

They are goons, goons are good at breaking into banks, but arent intelligent or very articulate, just let it slide. it's just they way it is in films, except Heat :p

Plus, he had a plan to kill them. You don't work with the smartest people when you have that plan.

I don't get it. After watching the prologue, it's as if every member in Joker's gang is a complete tard. The thing that bottles my mind is that they have a personality of a tard, but they can do difficult tasks like swing on a rope across rooftops, open the bank door, etc...

It's a case of Steve Urkelephobia.

Dude, they're goons. Joker's goons. The Joker is not going to get smart goons and have them thinking too much. The Joker is going to have guys that follow his directions and thinking about the money.

So yea the goons are good at what they do in the sense being each part they play- breaking in, alarm system, swinging from the building, etc...but what they`re experts in they can lack intelligence in other things...its called being human lol

Yep I whole heartedly agree. They are dumb because the Joker would hire dumb guys. Their motive is simple...greed. This is what he uses to get what he ultimately wants.

We also have to remember, these jokers have no idea how ruthless Joker is. He has no rep on the street, they jsut assume he is a new boss. How are they suppose to know how elaborate of a plan he is making

This uneven mix of the cheesy and the believable is what I hated about Begins, having it both ways doesn't work very well. There's better ways of putting humor into the film

I thought the Joker was pretty funny in the prologue. Especially with the bus. First one goon gets hit by it, then J shoots they one in it without even looking at him. My kind of humor. :woot:

Yea, the Joker's bus move was nice, came off alot better than the descriptions which made it sound like Final Destination

I really don't know why people are so fussed about these corny lines, pretty much every film has them, BB has them. did it ruin it? hell naw.

Why would he hire a bunch of talented thinkers when you could buy talented thugs?

Anyway, the dude who was hit by the bus seemed to have something in the ol' noggin. He was just outsmarted.

I agree - the boss never wants somebody smarter than he is. I loved the goons in the prolgue - The joker just used them :hehe:

It did for me, it's the only thing besides the music that ruined Begins. Couldn't care less about Joker's skin or whatever else people complain about if we could just have more natural interaction between characters.

Thats why they are called goons they are suposed to be a little dumb. But it seems like some on the guys wanted them to be Shakespearian in their delivery of their lines. "To be or not to be Joker that is the question"

wow, well, horses for course eh? :)

Well if we had normal interaction there really wouldn't be much to say. Also their dilogue sets up the underworlds view of the joker. To a normal viewer thats all the knowledge they have of him. They don't even know that the silent one is J

Yea, but the characters might as well be talking directly to the camera the way they conveniently say everything we need to know and add exactly nothing else. The same thing made all the conversations in Begins boring, no subtext. There's cleverer ways to get info across than just spelling everything out with the dialogue

if they knew who he was it would totally change the dynamic of the character.
