What's YOUR favorite ensemble/epic story from DC?

The Dark Knight Returns is what got me interested in comics again. changed my whole perspective on Batman and comics in general.

Woops. It has been a while since I read it. Glad to see so many people agree with me about DKR though.:yay:

Well, people just overrate it so damn much. Just like Year One...I like it...but that is also overrated...all Miller does is characterize Gordon and establish that corruption resides in Gotham. And yet, people go around saying Miller diserves credit for how Batman is nowadays.

He's already got that credit. If it weren't for Miller/ Adams/ and O'neil . . . we'd still be in Bat-Camp.

IMO, Your Opinions suck. ^
That's why you're the one wearing a helmet with your name on it and have a note pinned to your shirt from your teacher to your mother, while I'm busy f***ing her.

I enjoyed DKR for what it was.A dark and gloomy look into the future of Gotham. But I have read far better stories than this.

Anybody else love JLA Year One as much as I did?One of my fav DC stories I've read so far.

Along with The New Frontier, I've also wanted to read Kingdom Come. I'm curious, how many parts/issues to it is there?

Also, is The Kingdom the sequel or something? I wasn't sure because it isn't done by the same people.

It sort of it. It's written by Mark Waid, but unlike Kingdom Come, it f***ing sucks.

Yes, it was amazing

Well, it's not so much a sequel as it is a confusing bastardization of Kingdom Come, without Alex Ross' excellent artwork.

I just bought Kingdom Come on my way back from buying some food for my puppy. I would have gotten Absolute DC: The New Frontier as well but they didn't have any. :(

Single issue: Sandman #8, the first one with Death.
Miniseries: The Dark Knight Returns, despite the hostility directed toward it in this thread.
Arc: Preacher.

My Absolute: New Frontier book just came in and I'm definetely looking forward to it. This is the second graphic novel I've bought that was highly liked in this thread. :P

I got an amazing deal too on eBay. Like 25 bucks cheaper than retail price; amazing condition and quick shipping too. :D

So how are you liking Kingdom Come? . . . or have you gotten into it yet?

Well, I made a mistake and started to read it late at night. So I'm done with the first 3 issues/parts or w/e you wanna call them. I got one more to go with Kingdom Come and I am really enjoying the story; not a waste of money at all.

As a Superman fan, my all-time favorite single issue is "Action Comics #800." The story tells Clark's journey to becoming Superman. (Superman only shows up on the last page...) and the chapters are split up by these black and white sub-stories of people (albeit fictional people) sharing the impact that Superman has had on their lives...it's a really nice stand-alone Superman story...with work from several different writers and artists. Great issue.

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tommorrow? (The second part in Superman, not the first in Action Comics, though they were both good).

That is, imho, the best Superman story done to date.

Talking about those epic stories where the story delivers on all levels even with a cast of hundreds.

I'm going to have to go with:

Kingdom Come
The Golden Age
The New Frontier
JLA Year One
Justice

New Frontier
Kingdom Come
JLA Year One
JLA Rock of Ages

I wouldn't really dub Golden Age as a real epic story. It was good, but not necessarily epic.

It was pretty epic... the end scene?

Anyway, KINGDOM COME, JLA YEAR ONE, JLA TRIAL BY FIRE, JL OBSIDIAN AGE (Which I couldn't recommend enough)
