What's YOUR favorite ensemble/epic story from DC?

James Robinson's entire Starman series.

Superman: Secret Identity

Batman: The Long Holloween

The Sandman Seires

of those that weren't already mentioned.

Totally forgot about TLH and DK.

Secret Identity?Really?Hmm,I'm going to read this on the long drive home.Picked up this weekend here in the US.

I think Golden Age tops all.

Then New Frontier.

Then Zero Hour - what an amazing title.

I said the same thing about NF,but Golden Age is also amazing because of it's ability to capture that era of post WW2 America.

You really thought Zero Hour was good?

I also loved; Armageddon, Millennium, Our Worlds at War, Day of Judgment and Genesis*.

;)

*It's just occurred to me I have no idea what Genesis was about.

Actually, remembering crossovers I remember enjoying Invasion, although I would have read it about 4 years after it came out. I still have the issues around somewhere. Surprised it never got a trade, I don't remember it being horrific.

Oh yeah I totally forgot Golden Age. To be fair, it is not my favorite...but damn good.

Kingdome Come
JLA vol. 2: American Dreams (Superman and the League v. Heaven. How do you top that?)
JLA vol. 6: World War III (with Mageddon, that's how)
The Legion of Superheroes: The Great Darkness Saga
The Crisis on Infinite Earths
The Death of Superman/Funeral For a Friend/The Return of Superman
Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

Why no love for The Final Night???

Final Night is actually pretty good, rather short but good.

Underworld Unleashed was actually a good read too.

DC like Marvel has a long pedigree for crossover ensemble events and sadly most of them are pretty dire.

I've also heard of and never read the Janus Directive that ran through, Checkmate and Captain Atom (I think) It was about Kobra trying to take over the world. Apparently it is great but I've never been able to get my hands on any of the issues and I don't believe it is collected anywhere.

Not even Zauriel saved that title :(

Jesus, Zauriel not making something good, especially on these boards... wow.

Kingdom Come ...haven't read anything that comes close to this for #1 spot all-time. Everything about it rings true and raises the bar for the comics medium.

Identity Crisis - LOVED IT! Totally inthrawled me, pulling me back into mainstream comics. Great who dunnit' b/c of the attention to characterization. I didn't like all of the deaths, but at least they were well-written.

Batman: Knightfall - A who's who of rogue's and heroes as bats finally loses his edge. Even though I knew what was coming when I reread this several years ago, I was even more nervous for the dark knight's fate! This arc feels like a season of '24' with its action, pacing, and flawed characters.

Infinite Crisis - Yeah, I know it's recent and has its holes, but the events leading up to and into IC made it an INSTANT CLASSIC! Methodical and well-planned (for the most part), this one blew the doors off the term "event" for me.

The Janus Directive isn't all that. It's a low point in both of the Checkmate and Suicide Squad series in my opinion. It's not bad or anything, but thoroughly confusing at times.

1.Watchmen
2.Dark knight Returns
3.Kingdom come

Well speaking as someone who absolutely LOATHES FRANK MILLER and pretty much everything he has done...I also didn't like Watchmen come to think of it, hmm.
Anyway, back on track.

It's hard for me to choose one. But my favorite Batman story right now is definetly

Batman: TLH

My favorite Superman is today, this week,

Superman: For all Seasons

Justice League Year One is pretty ok I guess, I felt Aquaman was under utilized, but when is he not? Everyone underestimates and under uses my boy A, and that hurts, cause he rocks.

Um...

Kingdom Come is pretty much my fave right now, although I did love Identity Crisis.

Actually, you know, I'm gonna tie Kingdom Come, Identity Crisis, and Infinity Crisis. All three of those are my favorites this week.
Although I'm supposed to pick up New Frontier from ShadowBoxing soon, so I may have a new favorite...

I think Waid did a fantastic job with Aquaman and Martian Manhunter in the book.He gave them a real voice and personality. Both were done great justice in my opinion.

That scene with Aquaman getting kicked out of the sea exhibit was priceless.

Can anyone explain to me the concept/story behind The New Frontier and what makes it so epic? Sounds like it's certainly one of the better DC stories out there...

I think Watchmen is great for a one time read, but isnt as good 2nd time around. Kingsom Come on the other hand gets better every time u read it.

Watchmen became better for me the second time through, as some parts were now less confusing.

Basically it's Marvels for DC, except told from the heroes and developing heroes perspective.

Ah fair enough then, although low point for Checkmate can actually be a high point for a lot of titles. I think I've just been told comparable to most of DC's crossovers this one was rather good.

It's basically about the crossover between the Golden Age and the Silver Age with the older heroes getting pushed out in favor of the new younger heroes of the Silver Age, tells the origins of a lot of the stable Silver Age heroes and the first major time when all the new heroes joined together.

It wasn't bad by any stretch. Just could've been better.

I would say a new story for the future would be Identity Crisis.That..i thought was a good comic, one of the best DC made in the past few years.Or Superman-Red Son.
