Whats your longest Marvel comic run?

Themanofbat said:
Man, if THAT were true, I'd have 800 issue runs of Batman & Superman, and full runs of everything else.

:)
On a serious note your collection is quite impressive. You must have a big house. I ran out of space a few years ago. :(

Damn, thats cool. Must be a pain storing all them.

I have over 25 of the long boxes that store approximately 300 + comics.

Thanks... and it would have been even more impressive if I had managed to keep the comics I bought from 1975 to 1978. :csad:

We had an old book shop that had used comics in it... litterally thousands of comics... mostly Archie and Gold Key stuff, but some old Marvels from the late 60's/early 70's that a kid could buy 5 for a quarter. The owner would pay you a penny a comic, and he would resell them at a nickel a piece.

Most of the comics were in rough shape, but who cared? I got to read some great stories (and even some not-so-great stories... ala the campy DC books of the late 50's/early 60's) for next to nothing because my Mom's sister took me there all the time (and she bought comics too  ) and would buy me a bunch of cool comics.

It was only in 1978 that I decided to "collect" my books and keep them in good shape.

By 1983, I was working in a comic store for 50% discounts instead of monetary payment, and I did that for close to 6 years, and by 1994, I managed a comic chop for 3 years.

I was able to buy a LOT of comics at very cheap prices throughout the years.

:)

I have 6 long boxes and 6 medium boxes but these have been full for a long time and there's no space for any more. :(

My longest run from marvel is UFF but I stopped buying after millar left.

I kept my comics at my parents' place forever until last year, when I bought a nice sized house.

:)

My Mom complained every other day about the lack of room in my old bedroom, which she uses as her sewing room.

It sounds like you've had some luck with your purchases. I would have loved to work in a comic shop at a young age.

I've personally not been very 'streetwise' in the way that I've accumulated back issues, getting them from many different sources and rarely at good prices. :( I would love to have stumbled across a complete collection of the books that I wanted at a discounted price (eg a wife selling of a dead guy's collection - as cynical as it sounds :O ).

Hahaha :p parents are the biggest obstacle to the maintenance of a healthy comic collection.

My biggest regret was selling off my first collection I had in the 80's. Currently, I have 70 long boxes of comics, and really need to sell some off. It's just too much to put away, and I find I do comic bagging and storing about twice a year.

 My problems don't seem so bad anymore. That's a hell of a lot of storage space.

I had to get rid of most of my comics many many moons ago.....but I still have my Conan the Barbarian comics from #1 - around 200.

That's pretty sweet.... that old Barry Windsor-Smith art was awesome...

:)

Smith was fantastic.....I kept the giant size "Red Nails" he did too, along with a few other things. I once had a giant collection...but had to sell most of it off in '83 to pay medical bills.

Well, truth be told, at one point in 1976 or 1977, after my Mom yelling at me to keep my room clean and TO PUT MY COMICS AWAY many, many, many times, I came home from school and she had clumped them in a box and sold them to the guy for a penny each. :csad:

And we're talking about some cool pre-Batman comics in the 200's... some Neil Adams stuff, Amazing Spider-Man's, Marvel team-Ups, Kamandi, Swamp Things, Man-Things, WereWolf By Night, Justice League of America, Detective Comics, Daredevil...

While most of it was rather easy to obtain in the 80's (though a bit more costly), some things were more difficult to find... like a full set of Kamandi's.

I could get all 59 Kamandi issues now... if I want to pay over 300 bucks. :csad:

In any event, I started "seriously collecting" in 1978, so I guess I learned my lessons. :)

I actually still have my old Marvel Treasury Edition No.4 which reprinted "Red Nails"...

One of THE best comic book tales ever put to print. :)

Dark Horse now owns the Conan rights, and have been reprinting the old Marvel stuff in TPB form called "The Chronicles of Conan".

I believe they get to "Red Nails" in volume 4.

In case you wanted to know...

:)

Quite a good question,as for me.I dont have exact dates, but i have a Uncanny X-Men from the late 1980`s to 1992.I would have to check for anything more detailed than that.

I had them, The Forever People, and The New Gods from issue #1 on......the key word there is.....had.:(

Red Nails was a fantastic adaptation....some of the best art Smith ever did, and a good take on the Howard story.

I had saw those reprints and thought about picking them up...that way I can read them without worrying about hurting my originals....but I have to watch my money a little bit right now.

Don't be sad... we all started somewhere....

A few years down the road, and you'll have an impressive run.

:)

;)

I want to have the whole USM run with some patience and some extra shifts, and hope to have a long run of Iron Man, Amazing Spiderman, Cable & Deadpool and Captain America as those are the ones I don't see myself leaving too soon. I really wanna snatch a full run of the Deadpool series, but I don't see how I can since my lcs doesn't have any Deadpools. Eh, thats what ebays for I guess 0.o

Nearly every collector has a horror story like this to tell :(

Ouch. That sucks.

I have around 4500 - 5000 comics in my collection, but they take up too much room, and the wife keeps nagging me that I need to make space in the office(in case we need to turn it into a nursery  ). So I'm buying more and more TPBs these days than back issues, just for the space thing, plus they are much easier to store, btw I have just under 100 TPBs as well

I have collected ever runaways issue. i had tried collecting everything ultimate but it cost too much and felt some of the titles were lacking:o
