When did it become alright to be a hick?

The confederate flag....whatever. My cousin's neighbor down in Indianapolis has a big ass one hanging from his balcony. I'm not sure what it's supposed to represent. From my history lessons, it basically was the symbol of the south back in the civil war to say they were their own country...so what are you trying to imply if you wear it proudly today?

I look at redneck culture the same way I look at urban gangsta culture.

They both emphasize ignorant posturing over intellectualism, so I mock them both equally.

Exactly. :down

Holy ****. You're about to see me partake in a politics thread. Someone get the Tivo Thread ready!! :wow: :wow:

Yeah, pride in committing treason and wanting to keep your slave laws. This isn’t a “Yankee” telling you this either.

Yeah, I agree it's wrong NOW, but there's stuff you're omitting. And it was somewhat brought up earlier. It wasn't about "Me white, you ******, you my *****". It was about the federal government screwing up the southern economy "just because they could". Aside from being screwed out of the money you've already lost on all the slaves you bought, you'd be seriously out of man-power, and anyone you hired to do the work for you would want compensation, so you were multi-screwed--you lost your money on slaves, most/all your manpower, the money you had to spend to restaff, and all the time it takes you to rebuild your work force.

Let's put it in perspective for a second. Imagine if the federal government started gettting super-eco-friendly, and decided to put a ban on owning and operating all cars made after 1985. If you had one, you had to get rid of it-you couldn't sell it, not even to a scrapyard, and anyone caught with one would be a federal criminal. Imagine all the people this would piss off. Their entire way of life would have to change. They'd have to take the bus or walk a lot. Anyone who tricked out their cars would be out of all that money they spent on spinners and sound systems, with no way to be compensated. So, what do they do? Sit there and boo-hoo? No, they use their constitutional right and tell the feds to go **** themselves. They take their ball, and start their own country. Granted, seceding from the country is a lot less feasible now than it was then, but you get my point.

In a way, it's a lot like SHH here. We, the staff, run things a certain way. Some people don't like the way that it's ran, and decided to run off and make their own boards, so that they can call the shots [Val boards, GR, LSP, and plenty more].

Pride in what? Please educate.

I see a confederate flag, I see a people who fought to keep the right to enslave a fellow man, amongst other things. Please educate us ignorant people.

Like I said before, flying it now IS pointless, considering all the negative energy associated with it. My dad does that stuff, too [but for his defense, it's because it also became something represented with southern music, like Skynyrd and Hatchet, which is part of his life], but I don't care for it. And I was born and raised in Virginia. Matter of fact, if Warhammer is in Princess Anne part of the Beach, there's a good chance I know him, unless he's like, 15. My point is, it used to represent something, but now it represents something completely different to a lot of people, and it's lost the meaning it once had. Maybe, some of the people who are flying the "stars and bars" are using it as a knock against Bush and how he's operating the country, telling him "We can secede from you at any moment, assface. Watch yourself."

I'm sorry maybe it's because we're in a different time but it sounds like just making excuses for bigoted ancestors. No matter how you spin it, I could never equate another person for a piece of equipment.

They never should have had the right to buy that person in the first place. It's bull****.

No, I agree entirely. It was wrong then, and it's wrong now. I'm not making excuses or anything. I'm just trying to break it down into what they were thinking then, as to better explain.

i've seen a redneck dude driving a minivan around my town with tons of confederate flag bumberstickers on it. one of them says something like "if you don't like my flag you can kiss my ass" or something equally stupid.

Absolutely right.
