I've been seeing it getting progressively worse the last few years.

When did we start wanting movies to fail?
King Kong.
FF vs. BB
X3 vs. SR
Pirates vs. SR

Even before a trailer or without having even limited knowledge of the storyline, a lot of people have doomed movies even before they start production.

I understand a lot of people are loyal to directors or comic book companies but it just struck me recently how many people have made movie grosses and success/failure so personal. And how another movie's success is detrimental to "your" favorite movie.

It just seems I see less fans of movies these days and more opponents.

It's always been this way LotR vs. Matrix, you have to realize most of the people on this website are kids, including myself, and thus we act like it, it's part of growing up, I wouldn't take it that seriously.

Movies that get cult stasus these days are movies that come out of the blue, like 28 days later, equilibrum, or shaun of the dead. Movies like King Kong are over budget and over produced and frankly marketed to death.
You get sick of it after awhile. Now for something like x3 where the director changed and people were saying it was doomed from day one, thats just stupid people talking.

I only want 'Pirates 2 to fail because the first one was so unbelievably horrible and the dumb chicks and dumb gay or dumb confused guys who praise it are so annoying.

POTC was great, you clearly dont know a good film when it hits you in the face

Pirates 1 wasn't a bad film, it just that if you took Johnny Depp out of the picture, it would of been another Cutthroat Island and also it was 20 minutes too long :(

It was a bad film with a good performance by an actor playing supporting character that would have been 45 minutes too long even if it wasn't completely unfunny, unclever, unscary, and pointless.

I have to agree with Erzengel because I will not go see POTC2 opening weekend because I simply don't want it to make alot of money. Some have said it may beat Spiderman's record and I don't want that to happen, the only movie I want to break it is Spiderman 3. If it makes Superman level money ($52 million this weekend) I will maybe see it in the next few weeks but if it makes over 100 Million first weekend I won't see it.

I'm sorry that is by far the most pathetic thing I've ever heard, but A for honesty and your probably just a kid, so it's okay... But if you're over 20... God Help Us!

I only wish for bad movies to fail so that the studio will learn their lesson. Unfortunately, bad films (aka Marvel films as of late) usually do well and then we get more crap.

House of the dead, alone in the dark spring to mind or that anything

^^^^Completly agree with Gamma ray. Although I get more angry at good (or at least decent) films that do not get the deserved respect while awful crap makes 100+ million profit.

The only situation that would cause me to want a movie to fail is when I feel like I've wasted my money and my time.

I'm the goddess of b1tchin and moanin and I don't get it.

Some people just register so they can come on here to complain, disregard anyone that agrees with and supports them for sh1ts and giggles, attacks folks that disagree, wtf

I saw the first film. What was good about it?

You make me want to go see PotC:II just so I can picture you crying over one major corporation's loss of record to another major corporation. I probably won't, but whatever. Do you see what you've done now?

Anyway, I hope some movies fail (or others succeed) so that my faith in humanity can get a boost. Some of the movies that make money in the theatres make me wonder what kind of idiots we're breeding. (There's a difference between good mindless fun, and simple stupidity.) Mostly, I hope for people to encourage quality movies, and to discourage crap.

Otherwise... I don't really pay attention to numbers and/or records. When I want to root for something, I watch sports.

P.S. Go Little Miss Sunshine.

Since movies that suck ass started making a ****load of money.

Take FF for example - that piece of crap was almost a crime against good cinema (like many other pieces of crap before it) yet it still made over...

Three.

Hundred.

Million.

Dollars.

While similiar, but infinitely better written and directed films like V for Vendetta don't even make half as much. It's so disgusting, it makes me sick.

Most of the time I want movies to fail because people are always hyping it up so much i.e Cinemaman and Superman Returns....(even though I enjoyed it myslef after watching it).

The world is a cruel place. That's all I can offer.

the fact that you can recognize it and know it's not to be taken seriously makes me hopeful for the future. kudos.

I'll admit that Evil Timmy, my dark alter-ego was partially hoping that Superman Returns would flop. Now, why would I do something like that when I grew up watching the Max Fleischer cartoons and wearing Superman pajamas? Well, I guess it's because Evil Timmy wanted "revenge" for not getting a post-crisis origin story, because he had his heart set on a very specific kind of film, and it was totally opposite of what Singer was making.

Evil Timmy laughed when X-Men 3 turned out enjoyable and went on to make lots of $$$ without Singer's help, and wanted to go rubbing it in people's noses when Superman Returns didn't make a quarter of what fanboys said it would in it's opening week.

But really, the normal Tim... The one who loves movies more than he hates them... Was sad. He didn't want to see Superman fail, but was really just upset that Superman didn't get the comeback he felt he deserved. He's the one who doesn't feel like gloating, because he wanted Superman to be good. :(

However, both of them cheer whenever an Uwe Boll movie flops.

Help, are you kidding... All he helps movies to do is suck royally. His idea of X-Men movies are a fine example of what someone mentioned earlier in the thread where awful films go onto make a ****load of money while vastly superior ones in every way don't make the amount.
I rejoiced the day that he was out of the way so I could finally get to see an X-Men film that was atleast decent, or close to it, something his films weren't. He's the Uwe Boll of big budget blockbusters, the only difference between the two being that Boll isn't met with alot undeserved, unearned praise.
