2005; immediately following Batman Begins, or three years later in 2008?

Probably like a year after Begins

I highly doubt that, The Joker is already committing crimes at the end of the first so if it's, say, a year, there's a lot of backstory they're going to have to tell us in the relationship between Batman and Joker.

A much more plausible take for me is for this to take place days after the first one ended, have their first encounter be in real time of the movie.

I'd guess it takes place right after Gordon hands him that card.

no more than 3 months after i'm guessing. depends on where dent comes into the fold.

Seeing as joker was set up right at the end of begins most likely a few weeks after Begins ended.

So still in 2005? Dammit. Is this confirmed? I was hoping to see Batman have progressed alot since the first film. If it takes place right after the first; hes essentially still beginning and a newb.

Nothing is confirmed

You are right...he is still beginning...

Damn...I want to see him be a bit more mature and settled into the mantle of the bat..more experienced...but I also do prefer to see the movie take place right after BB, that way it always takes place in real time so it doesn't feel like we miss any action. I want to see Batman and Joker meet for the first time in real time.

well, do we really know how much time passed between the climax of Begins and the rooftop scene?

i think it would be cool if the film starts out a year or so after Begins, then it goes back to the first encounter of Batman and The Joker around the time where BB ended. then it plays out from there. something along those lines.

There's proof that it must take place sometime around 2008.

They never even said the year Batman Begins takes place did they?

I don't believe so. That'd be pretty stupid if they said all of BB took place in 2008, though.

Sweeeeet. :)

This takes place AFTER BB mate...so it could have been 2005 or early 2006 for all we know.

All the newspapers and stuff in Batman Begins said 2005 and didnt Nolan say it would be a present-day take?

Superman Returns took place in September 2006 too as listed in all the papers and news reports during the film.

For all we know Joker couldve been a newb too at the end of Begins. Maybe he was justing commiting random killings and petty crime stuff. We still have to consider when Dent and Maroni come into play. I would guess like atleast 2years after BB.

I doubt if Joker is going to be running around Gotham for two years committing low-level crimes before he ramps it up sufficiently for Batman to pay attention.

No one has considered that Nolan enjoys using flashbacks? It is possible that the movie will show Batman's first encounter with the Joker soon after BB and subsequently putting him away in Arkham. TDK picks up when the Joker escapes 3 years later and wants revenge on Batman. The time difference could be handled in a number of ways.

yeah i always held to a theory that an indefinite period of time that took place between bruce and alfred talking about improvements on the cave and the next scene with batman on the rooftop with gordon. i think it would be safe to allow, at the most, 2-3 months time within that gap.

Since it's taking place in 2008, and 3 years is a hell of a lot of time for the Joker to be comitting crimes, I guess we'll have to assume that Begins has been updated to 2008.

It's not really that big of deal.

Good point. I also think that the time between the Alfred and Bruce scene at the burned down mansion and Batman's rooftop meeting with Gordon was atleast a couple of months. But...If the Bat and Gordon are dealing with the emergence of Joker AND looking for Crane and the rest of the Arkham inmates then I would think that Joker is slowly making a name for himself up until Bats and him finally meet. Also you have to give time for the Dent election and Boss Maroni picking up the pieces and taking over The Roman's empire. I truly believe we might get some flash backs so I would say there's a good 2 year gap from BB to TDK.
