When I was a kid...

I had a 2XL robot toy that played eight-track tapes.

I had a Speak & Spell with a special cartridge that played words from ET.

I play CDs now where I can still remember where I had to flip sides back when I had the record ( or tape).

I used to listen to certain records when I would sit at my desk drawing, The Beatles' Abbey Road was one I used to play a lot, and it was a real pain in the neck when the one side finished, because you were so into doing a drawing you did not want to get up from it and flip the record to the other side. That's the only downside of records, cause I still think they make certain types of music sound the best, if it has been recorded old school, analogue style anyway, they give a warmer sound. CDs are best, or just as good, for electronic music I guess, and for things that have been recorded digitally.

1. Rocko's Modern Life and Aaaaah! Real Monsters. Are You Afraid of the Dark. The Angry Beavers. Some Hey Arnold and CatDog.

2. Lee Pipes

3. If you had a Charizard card, you were the top dog.

My Dad had a pager
Hey Arnold! Was one of the most popular cartoons, and you could easily find Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or He-man on the TV.
Tom & Jerry was quality, not over done
Cartoon Network was one of the most sought out channels for kids
The most fun you could have was playing outside
Kids were a lot more inventive. One time me and my friends made up a game out of collecting and battling with bottle caps :P I used to have so many~
Half the time I spent inside was spent drawing
Tapes and VHS were still around, rewinding them was so annoying :/
My first console was the Gameboy Colour :D
Games had passwords which you had to write down, otherwise you'd have to start all over again.
Pokemon cards ruled!
ANIMANIACS
One of the most popular toys were those spiral things. You know when you put the pencil in the spiral and spin it round to make a pattern? I swear I had like 3...

Ahhh, the 90's xD

I was a SEGA loyalist. I had the Genesis, 32x, Game Gear, Saturn and the Dreamcast.

Even though I was a pre-teen and teen in the 90s, most of my "WIWAK" stems from the 80s. Let us remember and show our ages, people:

Teddy Ruxpin.
Glo Worms.
My father's afro.
Actually watching Transformers, He-Man, Gobots, etc. . . as they aired, not years later.
Masters of the Universe - as horrible as it was - IN THEATER.
Garbage Pale Kids
Those crazy ass hair cuts and those crazy ass colors. . pull out your third grade pic. . you'll remember.
Oh. . and rat tails.
Really remembering and involved in BATMANIA.
Jams tucked into your Air Force Ones, wearing an OP t-shirt.
Remembering the trailer, or the movie, Child's Play - as a child - and nearly destroying your 'My Buddy' doll out of ****ing fear!!!

Anybody remember LA Gear?

In the 90's I was wearing LA Gear shoes to high school which I thought were cool but would get teased because they weren't brand names of which I didn't know that I would get a sharpie marker and scribble out the LA Gear logo.

And it wasn't that my folks were poor to buy me I just was naive as to the coolest brand shoes like Reebok, Nike, Adidas.

Yup.

Can't quite remember if they were the Payless type, or just the bottom ring of sneakers at a FootLocker.

When I was gonna meet a friend we had to decide on an exact time and place, and if my friend didn't show up at the agreed upon time... I had to wait some more until he showed up.

I used to listen to the tracks radio shows and record the songs I liked onto tapes.

Did any girls here have a PJ Sparkles light up doll? It was my favorite doll of all time when I was little...I wish I'd kept her, but think I gave it away a few years ago when I was hauling out old boxes in my dad's basement :csad:

We played dodgeball in gym and were allowed to throw the ball as hard as we could. We played rough sports (no tackle football) and we worked and played hard. Gym was what most of us look forward to each day.

If you had to read a book for a project you checked it out at the school or city library.

You had to have book covers for new books. If your parents had money you could buy them. If your parents were mine, you used paper grocery bags and drew your own designs.

Lol, Dodgeball in the gym~ I remembered a guy didn't dodge with the rest of the crowd, he was right behind the crowd and he got hit in the face and bawled like a baby. We laughed our asses off for a week.

I remember brown paper grocery book covers, but back then~ it was all the rage so it was considered "hip" anyway

Does anyone else remember Bingo Bear? I remember taking him to 'Show & Tell' in kindergarten. Ahhh...memories. :yay:

I used to work for the producer of those movies sister. He sent me posters signed by Brad Dourif

I thought the Sega CD was the only one I was missing but I had never heard of the Master System. Even at my advanced age of 25 I'm still getting schooled on old school systems.

My best friend had a Master System. It was the Sega equivalent of the NES. But Space Harrier was epic!

It sounds familiar. I don't think I had one. I still have my two Cabbage Patch Kids and my Pound Puppy. :yay:

When I was a kid..there were only 2 video game systems to choose from; Nintendo or Sega.

I started out with the original NES, but the attitude of Sonic the Hedgehog caught my eye, and for the 16 bit era in 1994 I went with the Genesis. Though way later on I would get a Super NES as well. Both provided some great gaming memories for me

When I was a slightly older kid...

...if I was hanging out in the city with my friends and we needed to get online, we'd go to an internet cafe and sign on. Usually to AOL.

Today we just use our phones.

On the same note, when I was a kid...

...I didn't have a cell phone, so when I went to Broadway show, I actually watched the show. I didn't spend the whole show posting on Facebook. :cmad:
